Yesterday caber

Overslept and late for work.

Olive was pickled for a few hours last night. Hopefully today she's stays up enough. I will pick up probiotic after work. Just maybe the smidge extra caber is helping.

Good luck with the probiotic. Rusty used "Renew Life", the capsules with 30 million. There is no smell. I opened the capsule and gave half in the morning, half in the evening, mixed into his food.
Hope you are having a good day after getting in that extra sleep!

Her vet called a little while ago. Her p'titis is actually worse. Her creat has increased and above normal. BUN is borderline. The other vet made a note on xray that liver edges were not smooth. Olive's vet thinks it could be inflammatory from p'titis but it's a guess. Also thinks even though WBC is normal, there some infection. Stool was negative for blood. She is more concert with the p'titis above all else right now. Wants to give convenia which I declined. With go with metro for 10 days.. Wants to do subq, she wanted to give 150 cc which I absolutely said no, she has hcm. I might consider 50 ccs but she isn't dehydrated. She does agree that low fat food is not current treatment but she thinks Olive could use a short rest from her regular food and to consider w/d for the time she is on metro. So we go back on Monday.

I know I can't afford the $400+ visit cost every 3-4 weeks.

Light bulb moment-i think caber is mixed with an oil or emulsion. Have to call pharmacy tomorrow and find out.

Vet just doesn't know what is going on. At this point I think it's just keeping her comfortable.

Oh Paula, I hate hearing this. I know this visit wasn't with your regular vet. Do you see your normal vet on Monday?

Thanks Sue. I don't know anymore. I'm considering stopping most of the meds/supplements and take from there. Keep the insulin, bupre, benazepril but everything else stop at least for awhile. Can't just keep adding more and more.

I agree....just keep her comfortable...piling on more and more meds...what's the point? Really? Sometimes you just have to find it in your heart to be the one to stop the heroics...the vets just seem to want to pile on...I'm not always so sure about them...if they're doing that to help you or the patient????

Sorry the results from the vet weren’t better. It’s so hard sometimes to know when to give treatment and when to just make them comfortable. Hopefully Monday’s visit will help with a plan.

Generally I am also not a fan of meds, especially lots of meds at the same time. They could be counteracting each other. Sometimes you have to go with your feelings and your experience. Have you had a bad experience with Convenia? When Rusty had to have antibiotics it was impossible to give him liquids or pills--really impossible. So he got Convenia and it turned out to be fine. (I worried the worry we all have here: that he would be allergic to it and once the shot is in, it can't be gotten out. But he needed something, so we took the chance. He did well on it. ).

Sending vines for Olive and hugs for you,

It was given to a previous kitty and she got diarrhea. Had to give Imodium to keep it somewhat controlled. If Olive is even suspect for colitis (now she doesn't think so) my thought is and I could be totally off here, the chance of any irritation the drug might cause could do more harm since it will be in her for awhile and make her worse.

Olive has good days, more bad days as far as no activity, energy, no enthusiasm I guess. Appetite is good, loves attention but that's it. Rare occasion that she even touches a toy, but does purr if you just look at her, seems to hurt if you touch her.

Which meds/supplements are you thinking of stopping? I agree that sometimes enough is enough. :bighug: I forget, is she getting B12 shots? That can be really helpful.

Regarding the liver, the vet does know that organmegaly or growth of organs, including the liver, is a side effect of acromegaly?

W/d is horribly high carb, maybe you can find something else to feed to give her a break.

Poor Olive and you! Sending more prayers.

If the WBC is normal, why do they suspect an infection? I'm not a fan of needless AB. As far as I know the Convenia is more specific to helping skin infections and seems to be over used. JMHO.

How about just plain all meat baby food for a few days?

Oh Paula, I hope Olive begins to feel better soon. As Bobbie suggested, maybe bland food such as beechnut baby food meat or steamed chicken or turkey?
Sending heaps of vines for you and sweet Olive.❤️

Pumpkin, miralax, egg yolk is what I'm stopping. Zobaline does seem to help. Gabapentin I'm on the fence with. Probiotic I started last night. Renew life 30b. It's all they had left it's Bogo so not much in shelf.

Vet did mention b12 as an option. I don't know if she is aware of organ growth or not.

I'm not set on the food. She claims the w/d has good amount of fiber in it. I'm thinking of making food, but the smell of EZ complete is not going to work. I have to find another additive mix. And low phos if her kidneys are starting to fade.

Last night she had the zoomies. She went in box, didn't go but was racing around after. She is thinking UTI possibly, I'm going to try for another ua for Monday.

Paula, I finally ordered a free sample of alnutrin with eggshell calcium ‘cuz the ezc hasn’t been cutting it with the clowder. The sample hasn’t arrived yet so I don’t know yet if the kitties will be amenable. Here’s the link if you want to look into it and the different formulations:

P.s. would a little bit of oat bran in food be an option for fiber supplementation? Gluten free or plain? It’s complex carb and is low glycemic index factor and contains nutrients.
