Re: 12/27 Rusty AMPS 222

Have a wonderful day Ella!
Sheesh, 'Scarface Mt'!!! Well I guess that's better than 'Take My Leg Mt' or 'Killer Mt' :?
I sure do miss our mountains back home. I will tag along with you in spirit!

Re: 12/27 Rusty AMPS 222

Ella, that sounds like an absolutely perfect way to spend the morning, I'm so jealous. I hope that you have wonderful time and stay safe. Nice start to the morning Rusty, be good for momma while she is away!

Re: 12/27 Rusty AMPS 222

Have a great time on the mountain! I'm sure Rusty and Edward will have a great time cozy and warm at home! ;-)

Re: 12/27 Rusty AMPS 222

Have a nice climb, Ella. We have snow everywhere, on top of ice...I think I'm staying home  Hope Rusty slides into some nice colors for you today :-D

Hi again,

Edward and Rusty had a nice day together with a combing/brushing, schmoozes, lunch on the coffee table. Both were happy to see me when I got home from the climb. Rusty was a terrific traveler on our Christmas trip. He didn't get carsick. He was alert and enjoyed sitting on the armrest between us on his fleece blanket, looking out the front window, traveling back to his litterbox several times, and sleeping in his carrier on his little bed occasionally. While at my sister's he had pretty good numbers, and an excellent appetite. I went back to my sister's house several times on Christmas day to be with Rusty (Christmas was at my nephew's house, where there are 2 cats and a drooler). Santa Claws brought him an Adirondack catnip rat. He wasn't too interested, but since getting home has played with it a little, and also with his 3 new bell balls.

I am scarred by Scarface Mt.!! The climb (8 miles rt) started as a pleasant walk through beautiful winter woods, but the climb part of the day was very difficult: icy rock with a thin coating of snow. It was incredibly slippery. I fell on the ice about 5 times, banging up my elbow (hit the "funnybone" and saw stars!), my knee, my thigh (twice: the second time I also managed to slide into a sharp, broken branch, so I have a super-nice bruise there). Several of the hikers almost fell into a steep ravine, but managed to self-arrest. We had to bushwhack around the steepest rockfaces. One of the guys who elected to stay on the trail in those sections needed to rig a rope in order to get down a very steep section with a dangerous drop-off. I need to buy real crampons! The microspikes are not sufficient for conditions like we encountered today. In any event, I'm fine. This mountain has a viewless summit, but it was at least out of the wind and a good place to eat lunch. Temperature was in the 20s, so it wasn't too cold. Tomorrow morning we're going to climb the shortest mountain of the 6. It is steep, but less than a mile to the summit.

I'm going to drink a beer now and chillax with my DH and my cat. bbl,

Ella & Rusty

p.s I got backcountry, "expedition", hiking poles for Xmas and they are great!

Yowsa! I'm glad you made it back safety. Those conditions sound awful. I'm glad the injuries weren't worse. I guess it does make for a memorable hike.  At least Rusty made it to the lagoon to welcome you home. Good boy! It sounds like Santa Claws thought he was a good boy too - an Adirondack catnip rat!  Anne wants to know where Santa got the hiking poles? Enjoy your evening.

Hi again,
After such a good trip, of course we would have to have a fur shot tonight! I thought it went in, but Edward smelled Lev. and then I did, too. Bummer!

Welcome home Rusty. Nothing like the home radiators to bring out the green in you. Sorry about that fur shot but Rusty will recover quickly.

Yikes on the hiking conditions! Sounds like a job for arnica gel tonight. Have a relaxing evening with your boys.

Sorry about the fur shot. I hope some of the insulin got in. I'm glad you made the climb safely and didn't get hurt too bad. That sounds crazy.

Are you sure it's the Arnica and not the beer? A hot bath would be nice too and maybe better tomorrow.

Hi Ella - it is wonderful to read you had such a great Christmas, and that Rusty did so well! Love the numbers, but bummer on eh fur shot tonight. Well, I will hope that his shed will carry him through. Surf well Rusty.

holy carp on your hike today, and Mt Scarface. I think it has earned its name! I will give you a high five for even attempting that with icy conditions. Snow is one ting, but ice? I'm not sure even I would do that. You will feel those bumps and bruises tomorrow. :? What an adventure for you today! Can tomorrow's be as exciting? you be careful! Very cool on your new poles! I love poles - they make it all so much better, and safer.

Enjoy your evening!
