Morning All,
Still battling the appy issues here with Gussie :(
This morning h threw up some cat grass laden froth..that was my wake up call..a LB deposit on the floor in front of the box ( civvie Lola's signature move), a big deposit in the box ( civvie Jett written all over it) and Gussies vomit....what a start, the trifecta of things that get you up and out of bed;)
He's turned his nose up at everything this morning, while the civvies have eaten like pigs on what he refused.
I have Zofran and Zobaline onboard, will add cypro in a bit after those meds have a chance to work if needed.
Was really hoping we would have this over and done with by now, it's been a couple of weeks plus now:(
Hoping it is a safe day for you all, a no drama kind of day with nice numbers:bighug::bighug::bighug:
Vines to those in need:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh for all who so kindly asked for pix of the popcorn cake, well that didn't turn out so well, seems I didn't have the syrup to corn ratio correct and it all went to bits when I turned it onto the plate:banghead: no photos but new colorful language invented to describe my feelings;):blackeye::p
Will keep trying and hopefully one day will have the perfect popcorn cake to post pix of :)
( I've decided Karma is letting me know in no uncertain terms that I am supposed to be with my sister on Christmas ;))

:bighug::bighug:

Wow, what a morning. I hope the rest of your day is better.

I am so sorry you are still battling to get Gussie feeling the best. You are doing such an amazing job taking care of him.

Yikes on the popcorn balls. I am an awful when it comes to any type of baking. I can cook, but I am always making mistakes while baking. Baking is really unforgiving. Hopefully they will turn out better the next time.

Thanks Amanda! Haha popcorn balls, rather misshapen indeed is what I ended up with haha! Well that and redhots and pop corn all over the floor and counters and under the appliances as well!
Yeah, nowhere to go but up after a leap from bed like that this morning!:)

Good Morning Les,
Sorry about your start with the "trifecta" (love that!) and sorry that Gus is still not eating well as it has gone on for a few weeks. Tell Gus he sure knows how to be a kill joy and not let momma enjoy the OTJ and relax.

Refresh my memory: what did the vet think was going on?

Thanks Bobbie!
Diagnosed via labs with P'titis. They are up on his SStab.
It's funny this morning, he does not look like he is in pain per se ( his face gets pinchy when he is, best way I can describe it but I can def see it when he is) but is just really sleepy and uninterested in good, sleeping.
Not dehydrated, RR good..
I'm going to let him sleep a bit longer, he usually eats more @+2 so hoping he will start breakfast soon, and if not then will see if I can get some cypro in him. Will add some topical Bupe just in case.
This is discouraging to say the least!

I can imagine that it is. Have you tried feeding him in isolation? Just a thought. He might be just enough under the weather that he doesn't want to compete with the others while eating. Cats can be funny that way and be on guard eating with other cats along side of them.

Hi Elise
Zofran (Ondansetron)2mg 2x day, he weighs 12 lbs
Does he eat within an hour of getting the zofran? If so it's working. Max would eat more at +2 as well although that was the insulin kicking in. When he had pancreatitis he often didn't appear to be in pain. Nausea was his thing. I would give cyproheptadine sometimes just once a day or every couple as needed. Zofran works just a couple of hours and can be given every 8 hours. Watch for constipation. That can effect appy and daily Miralax became the norm when he was in zofran.

If he eats it is working I think.
Super! Today he's just sleeping...hoping the Bupe I just rubbed into his ear will help too. I also turned up the heat hoping he will feel better warmer. He's just more sleepy than I like to see him..maybe he is tired from feeling crummy..his numbers have never really varied tho which is weird.

Unbalanced appetite is hard to manage when you have more then one kitty. When Big Brother was having
teeth issue and Small Kitty jumped on his food portion I found a solution. Brought him (BB) on top of the
fridge well hidden from SK so he could take his time eating. :)

Haha what a great solution!

Here's his Princess and the Pea photo
Sorry for the messy morning, hope things will get better soon. Have you tried cheese or
chocolate cake ? That's hard to resist !
.
hahaha no those I have not tried!

Added cypro to his system. Seems to be kicking in..he ate about a 1/4 can FF turkey classic..beats nothing, and he is up and alert..probably trying to figure out how to escape this condo if he could...
ETA I'm sure he thought life was do much simpler when he lived next door, dined on FF gravy and cheap dry chow and never ever had to go to the vets and was never bothered..

The cyproheptadine always perked Max up as well. I like it better than mirt for several reason but #1 is it can be dosed as needed and up to 2X a day. Since I gave a reduced dose I suppose even more often but never tried that. Until he was losing the war it always worked.

I think Gus is either still nauseous or in pain. 1/4 can you s the right amount to eat. More at one time might make him sick. Small amounts more often is the way to go with pancreatitis.

Thanks Elise...he looked pretty awful so gave him 50 ml fluids. The vet said 125 ml but that seemed pretty high to me so was very conservative. Boy does he hate that...he stomped off but is back to glare and stomp off again...back snarling and telling my off while snuggling close...such a funny cat

ETA: I would rather split the 125 ml into two sessions than load him with that much fluid all at once as he is not a cat with kidney issues knock on wood

That's one way to get your day going. Hope Gussie perks up some. Smokey was his p'titis meds for about 3 months before we could taper them down. Then he remain on the smaller maintenance dose. He didn't do well with stopping them altogether.

Next year you and your sister together will make the popcorn cake of all popcorn cakes!

I kinda mucked up the lemon dessert too. There is a ratio of gelatin/lemon juice/grated lemon with the amount of eggs and sugar with egg whites. If I don't get the gelatin just right or the eggs whipped thick enough, it gets..well, not so much of a delight..! I was on the cusp this time. My theory for my own lapses is that brain is so used to trying to figure out fud for the kitties that I'm no longer facile with human fuds that used to be second nature.

Talked to the vet, getting refills on everything and adding antibiotic Zenequin as he is snuffly again:banghead:. Everything picks up at a different place in different cities..good thing I filled my tank!
The cypro has made him come try eating periodically but he's not himself.
Vet said may need to do an ultrasound if it persists..
Any input on that process? Will he need to be sedated?
Thanks
Les

Figured out why there might be differing opinions on if the Zofran has a taste, it comes as a tablet and as an orally dissolving formula without the bitter taste!

Hi Les,

Sootie has had two abdominal ultrasounds this year, one by the traveling U/S at my vet's in October the other at the specialist place in December (in-house U/S Dr). Both times fasting was a predicate I think for two reasons: 1. Empty stomach etc makes easier to read? 2. Empty stomach in case some sedation necessary for cat to be still.
If I'm remembering right, fasting was no food after a certain time but water ok. It, the duration of the fast, differed at both places I think from sedation perspective the longer the food fast, the more safe the sedation and recovery. Others here are far more versed (and folks here guided me through bc the first fast seemed far too long) than I, but you could work it out ahead of time with your vet because of Gussie being "food controlled diabetic." Yes?

Thanks Sina, s afraid of that..
I'm hoping tomorrow brings a better day for him so it's not necessary to discuss it but it's not looking like he's feeling better no matter what I give him today:(

Sending many appy vines. I have had two cats have ultrasounds, neither with sedation, though Neko did need it for her echocardiogram (heart ultrasound). Civie Theo was done by the travelling vet and I was there to hold his head and talk to him through the process. At the last one, he asked the vet tech for some tummy rubs at the end. :) He was fasted, Neko was not because she was still on insulin. She was done at the specialty clinic and I was not present.

Sheba had an ultrasound recently of her bladder and she just lay there and let them do it. I was able to be with her which kept her calm. Are you able to stay with Gussie?
Sheba has the dissolving zofran and it doesn't appear to have a bitter taste.
I'm sorry Gussie is still having appy problems....it is such a worry when they won't eat.
Sending many appy vines. And I hope tomorrow is a better day for you too.
