Good morning, furbaby friends of Lantus Land!
Baby is doing furbaby fabulous & in the 60s when I went to bed last night & 60s when we woke for AM shot :thumbup I LOVE seeing her back in her normal #s & will take every # we can get like this!
Today she will go to the Vet for a check up. Appetite, activity, litterbox, eyes, ears, nose & teeth seem normal - but hope to maybe see why she is back on Lantus, heck - maybe she just needs some insulin!

Baby's numbers are fantastic. Maybe, she did just need a little juice.

Good luck today with Baby's appointment. Maggie has to also get checked out either today or tomorrow. I hope she gets a good report card!

Thanks, everyone.. we go today at 2pm CST.. I hate to stress her out when she is acting fine, but we must do it. I will let you know how it goes :?

Hi, we are home from the Vet: Diagnoses: otitis externa, little bit of bacteria & yeast in her right ear (very little) but he did give her Zymox HC 1 x daily for 10 days.
Said her breathing, left ear, nose, eyes, coat & teeth looked wonderful. I will get her labs done again this year in a few months, I have put her labs from last year im my signature. Baby weights 11.3lbs, last year she was 11.5lbs :mrgreen:

Good news, Nicole. Baby, keep up the good work and take your meds and you'll be back at the Falls in no time!

:YMHUG: thanks everyone! Vet said this infection should not be affecting her BG #s much, so who knows if that is why she is back from The Falls or not :?
Anyway.. we are treating the ear infection & her PMPS 143 is not bad since we just got home from the Vet, I expected it to be sky high!

sounds like overall, baby got a pretty good report! Glad to hear. :thumbup
I guess only time will tell what will happen once the infection starts clearing. Paws crossed over here!

Soooo Glad Baby got a good checkup!! Whew!--Maybe That's what's wrong with my civvie, but I dont see any symptoms of ear thing--Did you?

Congratulations!! So happy to hear Baby is well.

Nicole, a question: How did your vet figure out the otitis externa/bacteria/yeast diagnosis? My kitty shakes his head as if his ears itch, but our vet never did any tests. I would love to have something specific to suggest to him!

My vet usually takes a swab, wipes out the ear canal, then swipes a slide for the microscope. Looking at the specimen through the microscope lets you see bacteria and yeast cells.

Can't believe my vet never did something so simple! Thanks. I will make sure this happens at the next visit.

Hi, Roni & Kathy.. Baby has never had any wax buildup in her ears at all - always very clean & one day I noticed a dark brown/black dry wax, so I cleaned it (without going into the earcanal & on the swab it looked black) her sister Sadi has some wax but it is a brown color - so the black in Baby's ear.. made me think & I did a Google search & found out it was either earmites or a bacteria/yeast infection likely. Anyway.. I use to have a cat that had earmites a long time ago & I knew it was not earmites. So when I took her in & he did a physical exam - when he looked in her ears.. he said that the left ear was clear, but a black substance was in her right ear (which I knew) anyway.. he put a swab in it & then put it under a microscope & discovered the bacteria/yeast growth.

It is my understanding that a cat with an ear issue will usually **shake their head and/or scratch it but Baby had no symptoms, only the black wax I saw. She never acted like anything was wrong.

Thanks, Nicole. I think our vet did just a visual inspection, but Kitty does shake his head, so I'll insist on this.

Maybe the lack of symptoms means you caught Baby's whatever early!

Wow, Whiskers as black/brown gunk in her ears too! The vet hasn't said a word, even thought I pointed it out as well, I'm gonna bring this info in and have him check. Can't hurt right? Thank you!

O goodie.. you too, Cheryl.. I LOVE how we all learn from each other..I suspect everything is ok.. I know some cats are prone to wax.. Baby's sister Sadi is.. but with Baby's being black, BG #s up & a possible infection.. I took her to get it checked out! Good Luck to the 3 of you.. hope it is nothing, if it is.. it is treatable in 10 days & easy :mrgreen:

Also note what you smell from the ear. The smell you note may clue you in to the problem too, without using a swab. I've a civvie who doesn't get his ears very clean and he is frequently developing yeast, which seems to smell a bit sour.

Lots of condos with lots of learning today. I am glad that baby had a good visit. YAY!!! and really nice numebrs tonight. Go baby!
