Trix is looking good today, but I am SO distracted about Mario. He's steadier on his feet for sure, and was even chatty and heatbutting me for the first time in days during the night. But he's still barely eating. I do wonder if his thyroid also is too low as well, which would also trigger the low BP. Since the ER vet said it could take a few days for the BP to recover, I originally scheduled Mario's appt for Friday, but I'm just too nervous, so we're going this afternoon.

This has been really, really hard, with all the other feline issues in the house. I've got Mario confined to our bedroom. Zen's issues with the bedroom door being closed are NOTHING compared to Zen's issues with Mario being on the other side of that door. He has meowed at that door nonstop for hours...not good for any of us, and so incredibly stressful. I do take him in there with me, but instead of settling in and snuggling on the bed, he prefers to roam and occasionally bug Mario. I've barely slept for days now....

Any chance that Zen is bugging Mario because the door is shut and they've been separated or is this normal behavior? You might sit down and have a talk with them. Maybe they'll catch on that you're worried.

If your radar is telling you to take Mario in, then listen to your gut!

This is fairly normal behavior for Zen, only multiplied by the circumstances. Zen thinks he's Alpha (doesn't seem to realize that I'm Alpha!!), and has always had jealousy issues with regards to Mario. Mario, however, is very passive, so these issues never turn into fights - Mario just gives Zen what he wants (the pillow, the bed, the water bowl). Usually none of the cats are allowed in our bedroom, but because we want to keep a close eye on Mario, and we want to be sure he doesn't try doing anything like walking down the stairs, we've been keeping him in there since yesterday. This is making Zen nuts, because his goal is ALWAYS to get in our bedroom.

Zen is currently sitting on my lap right now, though. I'm surprised. I tried all morning during the wee hours to do this, and he kept running back up and wailing again.

ETA: Mario's follow up appointment is at 2:40 this afternoon.

Morning Amy and Trixie is looking good and meeting Mags in the Green Lagoon. I'm glad, too, you're taking Mario in this afternoon as it's that gut feeling we all feel at times. Oh my with Zen and the separation anxiety. Sending calming vines for Zen. Have you tried Rescue Remedy, by any chance? Tons of good Vetty and healing vines for Mario today. Hugs for you.

Hoping for a good report at the vet this afternoon for Mario and maybe they'll have some suggestions for calming Zen while they're kept separate. Hang in there. It's hard when you're caring for sick ones, sometimes the best thing to do is take time for your own rest. They understand, and the care you give improves when you're rested and can think clearly.
Look's like you're in the greens now too....that's good news!

(((Amy))) what a way to spend your mini-vacation....no sleep. I'm so sorry! I'm glad Mario is a little better today but you are smart to take him in and get his BP rechecked and his thyroid.

I wonder what Zen would do if you gave him some Rescue Remedy to calm him? Or when you leave for the vet, let him in the room while you are gone. I hope you get some peace and rest. Please keep us posted on Mario.

Cats do not like to be isolated, even though it is necessary--Believe me I understand about caring for a sick cat--

We had to let Mario go this afternoon. He was too weak, his breathing was becoming labored, and the vet felt his sudden anemia and low BP were from something far more serious. We agreed...we did not want him to suffer, so now he is free of pain, meds, needle sticks, and car rides. Right now I'm just numb. We will miss him forever....

OMG! So sorry to hear the news! You poor thing! My heart & prayers go out to you! You did the best thing for Mario! He can now fly free of pain & meds. Take care of yourself! Hugs!!!!

Amy I am so very very sorry.... I know in my heart that you made the right decision for Mario, and he will be eternally grateful to you for that decision. I hope your memories will be a comfort for you. He will never be far from you, always close at hand: in your heart, and your minds eye. Fly free little one. Oh Amy, I am so deeply sorry and saddened for you. I know how special Mario was to you. You did everything you could and to let him go and not suffer shows how much you loved him. My heart and prayers go out to you. I will light my beautiful GA kitty, Mikey's candle in memory of Mario. (((Hugs))

I am so sorry. Of course, you wouldn't want Mario to suffer. Knowing that, though, doesn't make the decision any easier or the ache in your heart any the less. Hold on to the memories and Mario will always be with you.

But I know how much this causes you pain and heartbreak. What a grand old fella Mario was and always will be. He was so lucky to have you and your DH for so many years. I am so sad to hear about sweet Mario. I know how much you loved him and the decision to let him go must have been so hard. Mario is not weak and in pain anymore...he is strong, young, beautiful and running free. He will always know how much you loved him and I know he will be in your heart and soul forever.
 
i am so so sorry to hear of Mario's passing but you made a difficult decision with his best interests at heart. He is fly free now, where there is no pain and no fear.

I'm still numb, shell-shocked, and my heart just plain hurts...he had a piece of it that no one else could ever touch. My life is forever changed, both because he was in it, and now because he isn't. Right now, I feel lost...I miss him already, and I just want him back. What I wouldn't give to be sitting on the floor right now, fending off the rest of the herd while he crunches his kibbles. I feel selfish, because I was blessed with almost 18 years with him, yet it still wasn't enough. 10 years and one day after Mr Kitty...there has to be some sort of grand plan behind that. One of my favorite pictures of the two of them together is in a Gumby and Pokey frame (that's on my fridge) that says "Best Friends"....

Sweet, handsome Mario...I can't believe you're gone, but I know you'll always be with us...

Mario is flying free now, no more pain, no more illness. You gave him a wonderful life and you gave him a loving farewell. We know how much you will miss him, but always remember that he has never left his special place in your heart.

Geez Amy, I just don't know what to say. I'm so, so, sorry. I know how much you loved Mario, and I know he felt every bit of that love. I don't know of many people who take the time you do, sitting on the floor with all your furry ones, making sure they each get their own special food and medicines. I know you'll miss him terribly, but I'm just so proud of you for being so brave in letting him fly free. You were the BEST mom to him. I'll be thinking of you.
 
No word can say how deep is that sorrow. Amy, you've gave Mario the greatest love; setting him free.
Your fury family needs extra attention from you during this period. Please take care.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I am still suffering so much over the loss of Jackson that I find it very painful to come on here too often but I saw this and I wanted you to know that my thoughts are with you. I am so glad that Mario never suffered.
