Hey folks. I know people might not be around much since it's the holidays, but if anyone is, I would be appreciative of any input!

Gen had a weird cycle last night. Started super high as usual and stayed in the reds and pinks for most of the night, but then dipped into the yellow early this morning. His nadir was at +10.5, and we had the lowest AMPS we've had since my early dosing errors. (Long story if you missed that, but ignore that very first AMPS on his ss from back in November.)

Now he's dropping very steeply again. (He just set off the Libre alarm, but it self-corrected up to a higher number.) I'm not too worried, as I can be home with him and I have my hypo kit with me, but the whole thing is just unusual and I wondered if anyone had any thoughts.

ETA: Removed the stuff about his cheek wound because I heard back from the vet and she says it's all fine. So that's a relief!

I hope everyone's having a pleasant holiday Friday, and all the kitties are surfing safely!

It looks to me like last night and through today = a bounce-breaking cycle. The night before last, he dropped down into the low blues and then bounced, dropped to 252 yesterday, and then bounced, and last night he started breaking the cycle, which has continued into today. When you have a bounce-breaking cycle and combine that with insulin, the momentum of the bg dropping can be greater.

You're probably already doing this, but be sure to check for the toxicity of those plants to cats.

Oh nice! Bounces suck. And it was always confusing to me, as when he 'came down', is that the real number he's going to stick with for that dose?
But seeing those blues and now even a green. Congrats! Keep it up Gen! Allie's fighting right along with you. 🥰

Thanks, Mary. I still am struggling to tell when I'm looking at a bounce or not. Especially since he seems to have two types of cycle so far: high and relatively flat, or a big "u" or "v" shape (a steep drop down, then shooting right back up). Also I'm not sure how stress plays in ... he's had a fair amount of potentially stressful experiences this week!

Yes, of course. My mother and I went over her plants extensively before we visited, and all the notably toxic ones were placed in a closed room. This was a Christmas cactus (schlumbergera), which is low-toxicity, and it doesn't seem that he actually swallowed much, just chewed on a few leaves. That said, it has also been removed to a position of inaccessibility now.

... I need to go take a shower and put on real clothes before family friends show up for a visit, but how can I disturb him?? 🥺 I'm not a monster!

Alas, it seems he doesn't agree. Again. He just hit 302. 😢
But...you knew that bounce was going to happen, right?? He's not used to being in the lower numbers and he grabbed that dang pogo stick and has gone to outer space. To me, the good news is that his bounces in these last few cycles have been relatively short: this current one was 1 cycle! That's good. He'll come back down soon.

Indy is bouncing with Gen today. He got down to 118 yesterday and was back up in the 400+ range last night. They know how to keep us on our toes.

Hope he smooths out soon. <3

I guess? I feel like I don't have a handle on it, because as far as I can tell, he's never really come down from a bounce! (Except to go back up.) I'll continue to watch with interest. It would just be such a relief if he could stay out of the red.

(Part of me just isn't expecting that until after he's had his dental surgery, but it would be nice to be wrong!)
....Earth to Gen...Earth to Gen...Come back down soon, little man.

Gen knows I'm a big David Bowie fan, but there's no need to re-enact "Space Oddity!" Ground Control to Major Gen ...

Gen looks to be having a great Christmas! I hope you are as well 😻

Xander goes nuts for plants of any kind, even the fake variety.
The weird thing is, Gen has almost never gone for plants before! He took a few bites out of a former roommate's spider plant (which I learned is a mild hallucinogenic for them), but he's never tried to eat any of the other houseplants we've had over the years. (We don't really have any right now, apart from one hanging burro's tail succulent which he can't reach.) So I was very surprised/unprepared for these shenanigans!
