Happy Boxing Day everyone,

I am in a little bit of a dilemma. Blaze started to act nauseous a few hours ago. It is almost his evening shot and I tried to feed. He is walking away and not wanting to eat. I tried 3 different flavours, but I can tell he is not having it. Earlier on today I also gave him 1/4 Cerenia but I don't see any results at the moment.

His +11 is 234. I am gonna test him again in 15 minutes, when I am supposed to give the shot.

Blaze has done so much progress in these past few days. I want to shoot but I am afraid that he might be reluctant to eat again later. I am home all night and I am able to monitor.

Any suggestions? Thank you
 
Test again now please. He needs insulin but we need to decide if he will eat so we know what to give him. I’m a little concerned as to why he’s been nauseous and wonder if he is experiencing pancreatitis.
 
Lately he has show signs of nausea on and off but more frequently. He had a hair ball yesterday which I thought would help clearing his tummy...but it didnt. There has to be more...
 
Diabetic cats often get pancreatitis unfortunately. Usually it can be dealt with with cerenia or ondansetron. Sometimes sub-q fluids and pain medication are needed.
 
I don’t think that was enough cerenia. Was it 1/4 of a 16mg? How much does he weigh? He likely needs 8mg. The oral is dosed higher than the injectable. Will he eat anything? If you think he won’t you could give him a token dose, maybe 1.0.
 
He weighs 13 pounds. yes, that was from a 16 mg tablet. I have 2 full tablets left
I am not sure he is going to eat anything, he keeps walking away from the bowls

We cross posted. You can actually give him 8 mg eight hours after you last gave it. That will be closer to his nadir. What do you think? Can you get more tomorrow?
 
I think that there might be a chance that he eats a little bit of anything in 2 hours...I think he will try to go to the bowls again. The vet had told me to give him that amount. I could give him another quarter, cause I gave the first one this morning
 
I think some vets doesn’t realize a larger dose if given orally is often needed. Shoot 1.0 and you do what you think best as far as the dose.
 
Ok I am going to give him a little more cerenia now. Another 1/4 so in total he has half a tablet for the day. Tomorrow I am going to give him a half tablet and call the vet. I just gave him 1U
 
CORRECTION

ONDANSETRON IS Every 8 hours. Cerenia is 24 hours. So since you gave another 4 mg don’t dose again until 24 hours from the second 4 mg. That was I was fine. Just no more for 24 hours.
 
Am I right that you can’t get zofran (ondansetron) as it’s ridiculously expensive? It sometimes works better for nausea. That’s what I have used more than cerenia. It might also just take a few days to work.
 
I’m glad he’s eating and that he got the full dose. I would still give another dose of cerenia when it’s time and continue until he’s eating a normal amount so pick up some more. Start a new thread if you need help. :bighug:

Yes cerenia time is this evening. I emailed the vet, he is going to prescribe more and I asked him to prescribe the other human one you suggested and he said we can try that as well and he will order it for me.
