Not bad considering.

The best present I could have this morning was to see him eating on his own again. That's twice since 7:30.

I'm in tears, I really didn't think he'd be with me when I got up today and when he started eating I was elated.

Merry Christmas (or whatever you celebrate) to everyone!

Glad he is eating.

Do you think your pharmacy might be open this morning so you could pick up some Humulin/Novolin N insulin?

Re: 12/25 Lucian AMPS 406

Merry Christmas Debbie! Much love to Lucian and so glad he is eating. Maybe ProZinc will be a better insulin for him or maybe they will create one just for him and call it Levluciantus

Aw honey, I can't imagine the night you must have had worrying. So sorry. :YMHUG:

I'm kinda stuck at the moment, my nephew is on his way from WV as we speak and should be here in the next couple hrs.

I want to talk to the vet about insulin options before I add something else, I think. Maybe Lucian is one of the rare ones that doesn't do well on human insulin. I dunno.

Re: 12/25 Lucian AMPS 406,+4/334

Ok.

Humulin or Novolin NPH would be in lieu of the R type, just to possibly extend the time between shots to 6-8 hours. All are human intended insulins and have been used successfully in cats.

ProZinc and Caninsulin were both developed for veterinary use and are U-40, with 40 units per mL. The latter was developed on dogs and is actually a mix of 2 different duration insulins, so rolling to mix is very important.

Whatever work, works.

Debbie,

How about the BCP PZI? It is compounded from Beef/Pork rather than human RDA. If he is resistant, or even allergic, to the long acting RDA based insulins, it might be worth a try. The vet used to be able to order a trial vial for you. Don't know if that is still available.

All the best,

Claudia

Thanks Claudia. As soon as I can get in touch with his vet, I'm going to see about a different insulin. Called this morning 12/26, she won't be in until next week.

Are there any other vets in that office that could order either BCCP PZI or ProZinc?

And as noted, Humulin or Novolin N may be available without Rx at your local pharmacy.
