I gave a fat 0.65u (well, its pretty difficult to read 0.65-0.75).

Is there a description of what is generally accepted mid-mark doses? Not sure how to explain it, but maybe a very magnified set of pics to demonstrate what we FNG's should be following?

Hi, Amanda. I'm not exactly sure I understand your question. Can you say a little more about what you mean by a "...mid-mark dose?"

If you're referring to mid-cycle tests, there are a couple of ways to think about this. If you do a curve (testing every 2 or 3 hours for a cycle) and do this on several occasions, it will provide you with very useful information. A curve will tell you when Lantus onset begins, where the nadir (lowest point in the cycle) falls, and what kind of duration your cat is getting from a dose of Lantus. While it would be helpful if all of our kitties had their nadir at mid-cycle, they don't. My cat's nadir, for example, is at around +3 or +4. Of course, it doesn't help that the nadir can move around (e.g., last night, Gabby's nadir was at +11.)

Others will suggest that you get random tests. This is also useful in that you're not always testing at exactly the same times so it "fills in" those blank spaces on your spreadsheet.

If this isn't what you were referring to, ignore it and help me to better understand your question.

Don't know if the above link will work, but if it does, it's a series of close-up images of various dosing guidelines for mid line doses. Of course, if it doesn't work, it's the same thing! but won't be much help.

If you want accurate and frustration free dosing, I highly recommend getting a digital caliper. At first, I thought they were silly and totally unnecessary, but now I'm a believer. On BD syringes with 1/2u markings, I've had Kay's 0.95u dose marked on the syringe as high as 1u and as low as 0.60--a 0.40 discrepancy--totally unacceptable. They're very easy to use and make test/feed/shoot times go much smoother. Hope this helps and great to see Lee Lu making progress.

Thanks Marilyn and Mel! Where do I get this digital caliper?
PMPS was 346... ugh. I am hoping maybe she was "stressed" b/c we had company over. I should have tested her midday but was frantic trying to get ready for dinner, etc.
