I won't even try to say everything I want to say in my first post back in over a couple of years, just know that I have been wanting to do this for a few months now and finally am here and can't even explain how happy I am that I'm back.
This place is like a safe haven and the people, well, my family and I'm so sorry that I ever left  In June of 2011 after losing my drooler Charlie and the passing of what seemed to be so many furbabies, I think I just shut down and couldn't take it any more. Even though I know it's a part of life I was dreading opening up the page in fear of seeing yet another Candle flickering and I found myself crying many a morning!
After some time I was able to join LL on FB and keep in touch with some long time FDMB members and I'm glad that I did. Oh, I never truly went away, completely, for months now I've been coming over here and reading posts just to feel close to the regulars and to see the adventures that the newbies were embarking on.

I lost my Mom on December 8th after watching what that terrible disease Alzheimer's does to the mind, and the soul and the body and it tore me apart. She was not only my Mom, but my best friend in the world and we used to talk daily sometimes multiple times and over the past three yrs. that was not possible.
I can be at peace now knowing that she is whole again and free from all that she went through. I miss her terribly but I do have her back home with me and that gives me peace. I find myself talking to her alot.. Strange huh!.

Now, Tommy, Well I managed to get my boy down to 1U BID from the 11.5U BID that he had been up to, but that has since changed  Tommy is prone to UTI's and in May of this year he had one, we got it cleared up and then we had to do culture and Tommy has Sterile Cystitis and still has blood in his urine. Sometimes there is no blood, others too much for my liking. I've had tests run, AB's and he is up to 10.5U BID again with no end in sight, YET.. He is 19 now and still just a love bug, but I can't find the answer to get his numbers back down, I feel like i'm starting all over again. He is on Dasequin, 1/4tsp Miralax, which has worked wonders, .15ml Bupe as needed, and almost done with 1.4ml Orbax Once a day (It does seem to help some)
I have started using R again to try and help things along but over the past few days even that doesn't seem to be working.
He will be going back for blood work at the beginning of the year to see where kidney values, phos. levels, so on are at so hopefully that will shed some light.

My pup Ryleigh just had surgery on her back yesterday for the 3rd time in her 4 short years on this earth and her second one in just 2 months. I spoke with the Dr. this morning and she told me Ryleigh is coming along great and already can move her back legs on her own.. Would you please say a little prayer for my girl, She won't be coming home in time for Christmas, but we will be visiting with her today and tomorrow.
Goodness, now I'm really done for now! Thank you all for being here and being the the wonderful people that you are :YMHUG:

Re: 12/24 Tommy AMPS 389, 1.R, 353 +2.. Missed all of you Ba

Morning! and how wodnerful to hear from you! I am glad you are back... understand too on how it can all be when we lose one of our own, and so many in such a short time span. It is ore than tough. Everyday I log in here and hope I don't see another candle. it has been a rough year for LL. Mannie went to the bridge in April of this year, among so many others.

I am sorry to read about your mom. My MIL succumbed to Alzheimers too.

Good luck with Mommy - you have taken such good care of him. I didn't now he was 19! That is so great. Good luck with the BW coming up. It's tough with our seniors, so many things begin to creep into the picture. I hope his will come back in good shape.

Enjoy your day today! I hope all goes well. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE!

Michelle, good morning to you as well, it's wonderful to hear from you and it does feel amazing to be back.
When I saw the post about Mannie all I could do was cry and think of the Nanner King and then go and look at the nanners that I have here that are all mushed on and loved and then I got a smile remembering the Nanner King stories and how much the kitties at the Rainbow bridge will learn from Mannie. I'm so glad you're still here and thanks for the good thoughts for my Tommy. Merry Christmas Eve to you as well

(((Squirrel)))
What a lovely holiday present to have you back with a Tommy condo!! I've missed you too.

Tommy's SS certainly tells a story. Right now, it's looking like he's needed more insulin. Are you giving him 1.0u of R? I'd want to be sure that the R isn't causing more bounciness. I don't think it is but it's something to be aware of. I'd also think about raising Tommy's Lantus tomorrow morning.

Re: 12/24 Tommy AMPS 389, 1.R, 353 +2.. Missed all of you Ba

Sienne, Thank you for the wonderful welcome back.. You had a little hand in that, but I won't tell
As for the R, yes 1.R at the moment. I did start with .1 like always but it didn't seem to do much at all. And when I upped his dose just a few cycles ago I didn't give any R to be sure I wasn't changing too much at once. I've been wondering if he has something else going on that I can't see. I mean you know with our kitties, they are very stoic and sometimes it's hard to get a read.

Lauren!!!! woo-hoo, what a nice surprise to see a Tommy condo! I'm so sorry to hear about your mom passing away - i didn't realize. it's so hard to lose our parents, especially when you've been close.

i'm thrilled to have you back. you can offer a lot with your knowledge of dosing a kitty with acro. btw, are you giving Tommy cosequin? it can toughen up the bladder lining. maybe it would be helpful.

Re: 12/24 Tommy AMPS 389, 1.R, 353 +2.. Missed all of you Ba

Julie, Hello there my friend, I'm getting ready to go visit Ryleigh, haven't seen her since Saturday night and having baaaad withdrawals, but I wanted to see if any one else had posted and how wonderful to see that you stopped in.
I did have Tommy on Cosequin for quite a while but I don't feel it worked, we are now taking Dasequin and will be starting Wellactin later today. Vet didn't want me to introduce too many new things to Tommy all at once.
I hope you have a wonderful day, I'll check back in later when I get home.. Happy Tuesday Julie, Hugs!!

Re: 12/24 Tommy AMPS 389, 1.R, 353 +2.. Missed all of you Ba

The discomfort from the cystitis could be contributing to the numbers. Deb/Spot just opened a condo asking about pain meds. It may be worth looking at the responses.

If the cystitis is inflammatory, maybe something that is better with inflammation than bupe may be helpful. If Tommy's kidney values are good, you could discuss a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory (just not Metacam). They can all cause kidney problems but as long as kidney values are OK to start with and you get labs regularly, It might be worth considering.

This is an article from Veterinary Partner. The only thing I've come across recently is that there's now some question whether glucosamine actually helps. They do note that fluids may be a useful addition to what you're already doing.

Re: 12/24 Tommy AMPS 389, 1.R, 353 +2.. Missed all of you Ba

I lovelovelove seeing a Tommy condo!!!! It's like old home week. Julie is back, your're back, I'm back....awesome!!! I stopped posting a while ago for the very same reason you mention. I was crying ALL THE TIME. It seemed LL went through a pretty bad period for a while. I still came on and lurked at least a couple days a week, but just didn't post myself. When Mannie and Punkin died, I really felt like members of my own family had left me. It was awful. It was because I had such a scare with Champ that I realized I NEED the people here who had become my friends, for support and for someone to worry along with me so I didn't have to feel like I was alone in it. I know some sorrow is going to felt on occasion again, but the beans who lose their babies need my shoulder as much as I needed theirs recently. I have to give back since I've received so much. I'm glad you're back. I've missed you, friend!!

I didn't realize Tommy was such an old man!! Goodness!! Champ has had several bouts with sterile cystitis and it was treated with ketoprofen with great success. Ketoprofen is a prescription nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory so it shouldn't mess with blood sugars. It started working in Champ within one day. You might want to try it and see if it helps at all. Worth a try.

I'll be saying a prayer for your sweet Ryleigh. I read your post on FB about her. She's been through a lot for such a young dog and I feel for her AND you. Let's hope this will be the last time she has to go through this!!

Times can definitely be tough here...I've also shed many, many tears. But, what an amazing place....the support, the people, the family - LL is the best place on earth. Welcome back!! Sending many prayers for both Tommy and Ryleigh, and wishing you much Christmas joy.

Re: 12/24 Tommy AMPS 389, 1.R, 353 +2.. Missed all of you Ba

Hello Lauren - I started after your time, but of course I've heard of you and the wonderful Tommy. And I'm so happy to see another experienced acro-mom on here. :-D I hadn't realized Tommy's age, he looks quite young in the avatar.

I'm so sorry to hear of your recent losses. LL can be a hard place sometimes on top of life.

My civie Theo has idiopathic cystitis too. After his last episode, his vet recommended a short course (4 injections 1 week apart) of Cartrophen. The equivalent in the US is Adequan. She said she's seen it work in some kitties so I gave it a try. It's too soon to tell if it worked, but it has so far. Some of his episodes have been as much as a year apart. I'm also giving him Cosequin and am also trying the Pet Naturals of Vermont UTI chew treats. It also has d-mannose which I've heard can be helpful for these kinds of kitties. I believe they are diabetic friendly. Good luck with getting a handle on that for Tommy, it is such a frustrating condition.

Re: 12/24 Tommy PMPS 209.. Missed all of you Badly

Good evening all and Merry Christmas Eve as well.. It's wonderful to hear from some of my favorite people and to have some new ones stop by. My visit with Ryleigh was wonderful :-D My DH left work early to meet me there and I think she was beside herself when we both showed up to give her big smooches and hugs..
As you can see, Tommy is driving as always!
Sienne: thank you as always for the advice and the links to read. I will def check out Debs post and yes to "NO" on the metacam.. no way no how!

Patty: You made me cry, but in a good way. I'm so glad we're back, it does feel wonderful and I couldn't agree more with what you said about this being family and giving back. I think what pushed me to finally get my butt back here was the passing of my mother, my 16yr old ginger "Belle" being DX with early CRF a few months back, Tommie's issues and of course Ryleigh as well as what happened to Champ the other day and I realized just how short life is and how sad I would be if I never could talk with any of you again and I didn't want that to happen. I will look into the meds that worked for Champ. Thank you for the insight.

Amy: Thank you for stopping by  and the welcome back, you're so right that this place is a Godsend and I hope to be around for a long time to come. Merry Christmas to you as well.

Wendy: Hello to you as well and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing you knowing about me and Tommy (lol) The Avatar is probably 6yrs ago or so, but he's still handsome to me. I should update that huh!
thank you so much for the information on what you've tried and what you're doing. I'll look into it as well. I have given pet naturals hip and joint chews but he is currently getting Dasequin. I saw the UTI chews but hadn't checked to see if they were ok to give to sugarbabies.

Must go shower and take care of the other kitties in the house and spend some down time with my DH.. and try to relax a little. I think I've cried more in the past 3 weeks than I have all year..
Talk with you all very soon! GOODNESS IT'S GREAT TO BE BACK LL.

(((((Lauren)))))

flip_cat flip_cat flip_cat flip_cat I'm jumping for joy to see you and Tommy back. I've missed you being here....staying in touch on FB wasn't enough.

I am so very sorry for your loss, my dear friend. It's so difficult to lose a parent and I know how close you and your mom were. She was so blessed to have such an amazing daughter. I hope your dad is doing ok.

Sending tons of prayers for Ryleigh.....poor girl. And it made me   all over again about Charlie.

I'm also sending prayers that we can put our collective heads together and help with Tommy. You've done fantastic with him that he is 19...wow.

Welcome home and merry Christmas :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:
