Pretty sure Doodles had a bit of a tummy ache yesterday. Slept most of the day which is not totally uncommon especially when I'm in and out of the shop. Luckily the shop is closed at 2pm today as the house needs cleaned and Christmas dinner needs prepped for tomorrow!

His appy was iffy yesterday and I had to bring the Fortiflora out. Sometimes I'm in denial that he dose have IBD since his flares are short and infrequent. Noticed him hiccupping so I'll add a little Prilosec to his food today. Breakfast went Ok...ate 2.3 oz of food. He's eyeballing the YAZC but sticking to my guns right now and not giving in. Will only resort if his food intake goes down and I'll have to add a tbsp. or two a day for weight management. :arghh::arghh:

Merry Christmas Eve & Happy Holidays to all! Here was Doodles last night sleeping under the tree.

ah what a cutie! A popular spot for our babies!

Doodles barely ate 1.1 oz FF after 20 minutes of trying with FF. Gave him 1 tbsp. YA & ate only 1/2. I'll monitor him closely to make sure he's safe. It's like a light switch went off the wrong way yesterday and have no idea what is happening. He seems fine otherwise.:arghh::arghh::arghh: I'm a nervous wreck but what ever.

Sending prayers that his appy picks up. Trix's appy is a little light today, too...it's always nerve-wracking. Sweet picture!!

I find with Boomer that when he decides not to eat (doesn't happen very often lol) he will take the food from a fork. Guess he wants to be like his beans :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Do you have treats that you give him? Maybe give him a treat then hide another one in the fancy feast?

I have no idea with SQ is but I can syringe slipper elm bark. He didn't poop yet today and his sister was a bit constipated. Going to start pumpkin again at dinner.

So sorry that Doodles isn't feeling well. Is there anything else that he likes to eat? I have had really good luck with Gerber baby food (the all meat varieties) to just get them to start eating again. That's the first thing that Mandarin ate on his own after his bout with pancreatitis. It's higher in carbs, but it's definitely better than not eating.

Sending lots of good appy vines!

I'll pick some up and see. For dinner I'm going to try the NV Venison Grain Free with the Fortiflora. I am lost for words as to what is wrong. If dinner doesn't go well I plan to syringe Slippery Elm Bark which he'll freak and might do more harm than good. Luckily his BG's are looing good although I'd cram what ever needed down his throat if needed to keep him safe. Have to prep Christmas Dinner for tomorrow and just don't feel like celebrate....not even a little.

(((Karen)))

I wish I had some suggestions. I will say if you've never given him subqs as coordinated with your vet, I wouldn't do it. That really needs to be something you've discussed with your vet as to which kind, how much, when, etc.

The Gerber baby food that I see in my market has other junk in it like cornstarch. The only one I can find to use that is just meat or meat/water is Beechnut so if you go the route of baby food, check the ingredients and be sure it is just meat or meat and water....no vegetable broth either.

I think trying the slippery elm is a good option if you can safely get it in him. Any chance he might just eat boiled chicken breast?

I know you know that IBD can cause quick changes in appetite. Let's just hope he feels like eating soon. And if your vet has prescribed any ondansetron and/or cerenia, you could also try those. Maybe he's nauseous.

Sending many vines for Doodles and hugs for you.

I have Anzemet which we used in July when he stopped eating. It's been stored outside the fridge and has an expiration date of 9/2017. I'm not doing any SQ anytime soon. I'll see how dinner goes and if not so good we'll mix a syringe of SEB until I check to see if the Anzemet/Dolasetron is still "good".

One strange thing...back in July when he was on Vetsulin and hypo'd (we weren't home testing) we had him eating wet food only (but it was a chore) and the night before he hypo'd he basically stopped eating.

You might need to monitor a little closer if he's not eating well, it could make a difference in insulin needs.
I'm not even going to suggest Remeron (if you were to already have some prescribed, which I'm sure you don't) because I know how you feel about pharmies;)But it's worked great every time Pimp has gone off food. 1 dose was all it ever took.

Sending appy vines.

I'll be all over him with testing but hopefully it will pass soon. As long as he eats 1/2 wet and 1/2 YA (hate to do it but will if he eats it) we'll try the SEB, Prilosec (ugh) and restart pumpkin as he does seem to be having a little trouble with constipation. Will make note about Remeron too ;)

If you gotta do 1/2 kibble, do it.
Heck let have him have potato chips if it's all he'll eat.

I hope Doodles will get back on the feed. Maybe Christmas excitement! Maybe a few pieces of YA to get him interested? Or crush a few and sprinkle over the wet. That is how I transitioned Bubba to wet food.

Well, he ate 1.6 oz FF beef w/ fortiflora but was a struggle. Caved and gave him a small tbsp. YA to supplement calories. Also put a 1/4 pill of Prilosec and 1tsp pumpkin in the Beef. He had a small poop around +10 but think he's having a hard time. He's moving around the house and chased his sister Moo off the Christmas Tree skirt. Will give him another day or so but SEB syringed will be next. I'll watch him close (always do :)) and try again for his before bed snack.

Frozen pizza for dinner tonight but all the Christmas day dinner prep did get done.

Doodles is up roaming around a bit. DH noticed him kind of shaking his hind legs and thinks the final bit of the neuropathy is giving him some sensitivity...in a good way..kind of like if your arm falls asleep and it suddenly wakes up (that's how DH is trying to explain his observation). I'd say Doodles is 97% back on his toes which has come a looooonnng way just since joining FDMB in Oct. Food for thought....ahh, the kitty world we all live in. Lots of :bighug::bighug: to you all...couldn't do this without L&LL.

Piling on tons of more appy vines for Mr. Doodles. :bighug: Eat yur fuds little guy. Venison is GOOD! Civie Theo (IBD guy here) loves the the ZiwiPeak venison.

Merry Christmas to you and your family Karen.
