The great food change will begin on 12/26 - which will still be 12/25 for most of you - as mum will be able to closely monitor following our Christmas day. As suggested we will do it slowly and try to keep in front of any changes to his numbers.

Mum has been reading his condos - she's already started picking up on the lingo and I'm sure she will be posting herself soon - and she is very grateful for your assistance - she said she loves you all

I have just now got a home connection to the internet again [haven't had that for about 2 years since my computer died] so posting is going to be much much easier. Those smart phones are great but not for posting, especially from my yard when I lose my connection [and usually whatever I've painstakingly pecked out] every time a plane flies over

One or both of us will start doing a daily condo for him from your Christmas day as his food is changed over. I note that he is changing from CD canned wet food not from dry. If I recall dry food carbs can take up to three days to clear but does anyone know how long it takes for the wet food carbs to clear?

In the meantime I will set up a profile for him and adjust his signature - he is using a human glucometer - Accucheck Performa and I will make sure that is noted nin his signature.

Thanks so much guys, I love you all too

I would be prepared for sudden and possibly needing to steer the numbers ... and hope it is more gradual.
Remember to transition the food about 20-25% per day to avoid GI upsets.

Dry carbs typically take about a day to clear, canned food carbs a couple of hours. Remember how you don't feed in the couple of hours prior to shooting so your PS isn't food influenced?

yes thanks Julie on the no feed 2hrs prior. I'm going to add some bits about his feeding regime and glucometer to the top of his spread sheet in the next day or two
Thanks BJM today he got his lowest test number yet - 117 so I am considering again whether it might be best to reduce to .75 with the food change. Mums a bit concerned about getting that dose right but I sent her some pictures and instructions today and I think she'll do fine. On the other hand he seems to have an early nadir, she's going to have to learn how to deal with low numbers sooner or later and now is quite a good time to do it - while I'm on holiday and in a position to give them my undivided (albeit long distance) attention and keep a good eye on what's happening

Serryn:

If it makes sense, you can use the weight based formula for Purrdy's starting dose:
initial dose = 0.25 x ideal weight in kilograms
At the very least, it will give you and your mom a ballpark for the dose.
