Travel Day! First test was 322 - tested again and showed 292. Now granted this morning's amps # is 2 hours after giving him food, since I wanted to load his system before the drive. It was also 15 min after I caught him drinking water out of the Christmas tree base  (despite the fact there are 3 bowls of water sitting around here *sigh*)

Does tree sap have sugar in it? Maybe this is the cause of his higher numbers lately?

Not sure about the tree sap...maybe, never gave it much thought. Is there a possibility that he knows he will be traveling and that may be stressing him out???
Whatever it is, I hope he comes down to some nice numbers for you today. Have a safe trip and enjoy yourself!

I don't know about the sap, either.

I just stopped in to wish you as stressfree travels as possible. Hope you enjoy your trip and Oscar settles in nicely.
Hope you and yours have a very Merry Christmas.

Good morning. I don't know about sugar and tree sap but I do know that the tree sap can be released into the water and is toxic to cats and dogs.

Happy Holidays and have a safe trip.

sap does contain sugar at least in maple trees but maybe Oscar is stressed about the hussle and bustle going on preparing for the trip? Hope he stays calm and all of you have a safe and happy time

of course I had to go looking ...

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19603462

Carbon stable isotope ratio of phloem sugars in mature pine trees throughout the growing season: comparison of two extraction methods.

could the answer be yes?
What if you wrapped a mesh cloth around the bottom of the tree trunk and the other end o the cloth over the container holding the water?

Re: 12/23 Oscar amps 292 Christmas tree sap = sugar?

Just checking - did you put anything in the tree water to help the tree last longer? If yes, could that have been an interesting taste? And, is it safe for cats?

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I am writing from my phone while in the car (not driving of course!) We dont add anything to our tree water, but in years past we have added a little bit of sprite for sugar. Maybe there is residue? I will definitly be covering the base with something from here on out though. Sugar or not, I dont like him drinking from it!
