I think the 50 is because he doesn't eat between +6 and +12. I am going to wait a bit and test again, but without food onboard I'm guessing it won't be going up. What is the lowest number you should shoot, anyway?

Well, that depends on who you're asking! Marje and I will shoot in the 50s. However, you've not gotten a pre-shot this low before and stalling, to see if numbers are rising, is a much safer option. I've shot low not realizing that numbers were dropping and it can be challenging.

FWIW, numbers should rise after nadir. There's less insulin available to keep BG levels down. So, it looks like this is more due to Buster's pancreas working that his not eating.

Well, 20 minutes later he's at 56. Could be just meter variance. I'm feeling ok shooting the 56 - am I crazy? Should I be setting yet another alarm to make him eat a snack at about +9?

You can try that. However, if Buster's pancreas is waking up, the food should stimulate his pancreas to produce insulin. It may be worth experimenting to see what happens to his pre-shot numbers. Or, try giving a small snack at +9 during the day and see what his PMPS looks like. That way, you don't lose any sleep.

You can certainly shoot the 56 as long as you're going to be home, have strips and can monitor. I'd also suggest getting early tests. Since you've not shot this low before, I'd get a +0.5, +1, etc.

Supply check:

Test strips: 300+
HC food: 4 different flavors of FF w/gravies + icky M/D if needed
HC syrups: Honey, Karo
Meters: 2 + a spare battery
Treats for bean: Mini Twix, Snickers, Milky Way and 3 Musketeers

That oughtta do it! You'd think someone was prepared for the end of the world or something...now where's that darn cat...

Good job! I'm sure all will be fine, as long as you'll be around to monitor. Buster, cooperate, OK? Surf safe!!

Alrighty - Buster gets a snack at +3 and since he appears to be safe, I'm eating a Twix and going btb :-D

Tara, Bless your little lionheart. I heard Buster at the Lagoon today saying My mommy, she aint scared o notin NIce :mrgreen: surf for you and Buster.
I think with over 300 strips, you might be good for awhile, BUT Don't forget to restock the Twix!
