Good evening,

@cecile & bella @Madeline528 @Diane Tyler's Mom GA

Thank you so much for checking on us!!! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I am to my surprise still sick, that is why I didn't gave an update yesterday. Seems I catched beside my cold a conjunctivitis. I don't feel I can work tomorrow and I will go to the doctor.

I hope I didn't infected Binie with the conjunctivits. I wash hands all the time but I can not guarantee that nothing happened before I realized.

I don't see Binie much because she spends most of her time in the living room without me. If I am sick, she doesn't like to be close and maybe that is wise. She sometimes comes and checks if I am still alive, that's it. :cat:

Her urine results came yesterday and it is like I feared, she has three germs in her bladder. The same three which made her so sick in summer, two in high quantity. The vet told me before her holiday to not treat with antibiotics if there aren't any symptoms but I wonder if that is right for an already sick cat with three germs, two in high quantity. I feel a bit lost, because I don't know who could give reliable adivce and who is available during the holiday season. Some of the local vets are open between Christmas and New Year but I don't trust them too much in this complicated question.

The first thing I did was to up her dose of d-mannose, because one of the germs is e.coli. She got d-mannose all the time but just a little sprinkel in the morning and the evening. Now she gets 1 g, diveded throughout the day. The other germ is proteus mirabelis and I read that it is sensitive to the oils in rosemary. I try to give Binie dried rosemary in her food but she is not a fan.

I have the antibiotics at home to treat the e.coli and proteus mirabilis if she shows more severe symptoms. So far I don't see any besides the drinking and the peing which she had all the time while being diabetic. That is why I am not so alarmed that I feel I have to make a decision NOW.

The third germ is the enerococcus, the germ no antibiotic could kill. To my amazemend the quanitity is less than in the last test.

She is still licking her breast but not that violently. The fur is still there. Today I touched it while she was distracted with her favourite snack and there are knots under the skin. She didn't seem to feel pain, when I was touching it.

I am not sure if I tested enough and if I missed lower numbers, for example today. After she was 265 at +5 I thought I can stop testing for the day but she had a low preshot (271), so she might have been lower today.

Her whole health situation is confusing me. But she seems to feel o.k. Not great, but o.k.

Hope everyone has a nice evening. I will try to check everyone but I don't know how long my batterie lasts... :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike, I hope you will be feeling better soon. It’s been a hard winter cold or flu that you’re trying to recover from :(

It’s good Binie has stopped licking her chest a bit. And she hadn’t removed all the fur. Poor girl.

It’s so confusing what to do about the urine situation. Hoping the d-mannose will help :(
I can imaging she didn’t like the rosemary. That’s so strong tasting.

I thought it was funny that she comes to check on you just to see if you are alive. Smart girl. :rolleyes:Needs to know if she’s getting fed and if litter will be cleaned (we are their servants, aren’t we?)

Good luck at the doctor tomorrow. Maybe they can suggest something for you to feel better already!

Sending you and Binie lots of :bighug::bighug::bighug: and :kiss::kiss:

Thank you so much Staci! :bighug::bighug::bighug: I also hope the d-mannose helps.... It seems to be pretty effective with e.coli but not with the rest. So we will see. The rosmary, yes, itis really not her taste.... I mixed it with a chicken purree but she looks at me like I want to poison her. :cat:

I heard that some cats stay with their owners if their are sick. Binies prioritys are definitely different and I think it is exactly as you said. :)

Yes, I hope the doctor can help. The cold will go away by itself but I never had these eye problems and I want him to take a look before Christimas. I am sure all this getting up at night was not helpful to heal....

Hope you are well and you can take some rest today! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I am sorry you are so sick and hope it will be better before Christmas. You probably need at least some drops for your eyes.
I imagine Binnie's reaction to the rosemary. Here I find essential oil, but I am not sure at all if that would be safe for a cat.
Did you try to find an internal medicine vet, or infectious diseases specialist? Maybe in a vet school? She is so complex, I imagine that would be a good place to look but I dont know how convenient that would be for you, there are not that many vet schools.
I hope you ca. get a good night and will feel better soon!

Thank you Cecile! I looked up the rosemary oil as well but it is not clear, that it is safe for cats. The plant itself is. I will try again. I think I will get in a little but not a tsp as I would like to.

I looked up today if the internal medicine vet I spoke to over Zoom is online over the holidays but she isn't. She'll be back at the 7th. :( The next vet school is 2 hours drive away from here. I decided not to do these things with Binie anymore. We have been there for the iodine treatment and they didn't treat her nice.

I try to stay awake for another half hour for a +4 and than go to bed. I think I only need drops for my eyes, the rest will heal by itself. It is only a cold. I don't have big Christmas plans because of Binie but I hope I will able to see my father, who is coming to my sisters place and who I haven't seen for over a year now.

Hope you and your family have a relaxed Sunday! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

If you reassure her someone else will feed her after you die would she still check

Get a rosemary plant or a sprig of rosemary. Put on table and tell Binie “no do not eat this plant”

leave room.

Hhhhh......you make me laugh! Thank you! :)

To be honest, I am not sure if she would check again if survival was guaranteed. I always knew, I love her more than other way round. That is o.k..... :)

Very good idea with the rosemary, that could work! :cat:

Haha, that's exactly what I was thinking, just put it there and she will come check it out. :cat:
We're home and not going anywhere, my daughter came home on Thursday, it's so nice to have her back for 2 weeks. They play a lot music together and they even include me, even though I am very bad compared to them! Yesterday they played Christmas carols, trumpet-violin and then viola-violin, they sing... the house is very alive and I love that. My mom is in France, she's not traveling anymore but my brother is close so she won't be by herself.

Hi Heike.
Sorry to hear you are not feeling better. I do hope you feel better soon, and the doctor visit helps with your eye.
I can see Binie not liking the rosemary! Hopefully the d-mannose will help. They say to only give antibiotics if there are symptoms.
Sending healing vibes and hugs :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Wow, Heike, you are dealing with a whole lot of things. I really hope you feel better soon... I am also glad that Binie comes and makes sure you are still alive :D. Don't worry about responding to any of this until you have the energy too! Take care! :bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike , I'm sure the doctor will give you some drops for your eyes. I hope you will be able to go and visit with your father . Gentle hugs for you and kisses for Binie :bighug::bighug::bighug::cat:

Thank you so much Diane! :bighug::bighug::bighug: You are right, the doctor gave me eye drops with antibiotics and steroids inside. She said that after 48 hours I am not infectious anymore so I think I can see my father on Wedenesday or Thursday. Thank you so much for the hugs for me and the kisses for Binie! :bighug::kiss::bighug::cat: We are sending hugs for you and a nose kiss from Binie! :bighug::cat:

THank you so much Madeline! It's good to also have a confirmation from your side, about giving antibiotics only if there are symptoms. So it seems to be not an odd outsider view... I hope you and Butch are well! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much for your kind words Seth! Yes, with Binie lately, there is always someting strange going on. But I am glad she is there. Hope you have a good day with Bell, I saw she gave you a long night. :D:D:D
