Radar has needed help all week from Cerenia and Mirtazapine to keep eating with consistency. We've been giving it every other day. We are contemplating doing this combination every day because Radar does well the first day and then the eating tends to taper off on the second day. The vet says Cerenia "can" be given every day but he'd rather we stretch Radar as long as possible before we give another dose. Does anyone give Cerenia to their cat every day? Have you had any problems or do you have any tips that I should know about?

My main question is about giving Cerenia in shot form. Does it even come in this form? When given in this form, does it last longer or the same amount of time as the pill form? The main reason I'm asking is that I will be leaving home for a few days next week and my brother, Mike, will be looking after Radar. At this point in the pilling routine at our house, it takes two people to pill Radar... and therein lies the difficulty. I'm trying to find a way to keep Radar eating that will be simple for my brother. Does anyone give Cerenia as a shot at home? Whatever experience or tips anyone might have will be useful so we thank you in advance. :bighug::bighug:

Hi Jan

I’m so sorry Radar hasn’t been feeling well. :bighug:

I gave Gracie 4 mg of cerenia every day for six months as it is also a good anti inflammatory. She never had any issue with it. I did give it orally. After she was diagnosed with IBD, I also gave her ondansetron twice a day in addition to the cerenia and it worked beautifully for her. I never had to give her appetite stimulants.

Yes, cerenia does come in injectable form and it depends on whether your vet will give it to you. If he will, I’d also ask him to dose it in units so you could give it with an insulin syringe as the needles are much smaller than the needles they usually give it with.

Many vines to Radar. Poor boy.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience, Marje. I really hope the vet will agree to giving us Cerenia in an injectable form as that will be the easiest for my brother. We also hope he starts feeling better soon.

I hope he will, too. Vets can be picky about stuff like this sometimes. I hope he’s open to it.

Some cats find Cerenia shots sting, but not all the time. I have heard it may be better if cold. I gave Neko Cerenia orally every day when it got to that point that she needed it. That was also with ondansetron, the two target different nausea receptors. Mirtz can also be given every day. The latest research shows it lasts about 9 hours in a cat. And transdermal is better, if you can get it.

Vines for Radar. :bighug:
