Only ate about half of the AMPS food. She is still having pain in her mouth. I don't know what to do. I said I wouldn't put her through another dental after the last one a year ago because it was so traumatic for her and me (see yesterday's condo).
I contacted her vet late yesterday to inquire about injectable bupe for her pain. She was reviewing Maggie's file and should get back with me today.
I just broke out the FF salmon, which was her favorite, and she gobbled it down.

Can you tell if it is "surface" pain or more like root (deep) pain? SEB applied to mouth is suppsed to help with mouth sores and ulcers.
I feel like it is deep pain, but I'm really not sure. I tried to look in her mouth yesterday, with little success. I may try to introduce SEB again. We tried it in the past, but the taste seemed to put her off her food.

Poor baby. Try marshmallow root. Gizmo likes the taste much better than SEB. Same principle. I can throw some in the mail to you if you want to try before you buy.

Mix up the slurry and try and use an eyedropper to target the mouth (vs. ingestion).

:bighug: Thank you for the offer, but I have some of that too! I have a cabinet full of supplements... some winners, some losers. ;) I will try that! Have to wait until hubby is available because there's no way she's gonna sit still for that!

@CassAndGordy That's me and Noah! Very quickly, have to leave. Noah should have had all his teeth pulled two years ago but only had a 5% chance of making it through surgery. He was getting oral BUPE and we tried every flavor there was. I honestly thought he was going to have a stroke, he HATED it that much!
This BUPE is the consistency of toothpaste in a syringe, easily measurable and in any strength your vet specifies. You put a little blob on the supplied spoons and smear it on the inside of the ear. Keep the ear clean and rotate ears. You can also use a smaller amount and apply more frequently. Noah is a pretty happy cat considering what he's been through and never gets looped so we don't have to block the stairs. It will expire within 2 months and keeping it cool/cold doesn't help.
If anyone has more questions tag me anytime. :)
@Noah & me Thank you for the information! Do you use a mail order compounding pharmacy, and if so, which one? My vet is a little inexperienced with cats, I think (mostly horses and dogs in her practice). Could you tell me how your prescription label reads as far as strength and dosage amounts and frequency?

@Alicia & Maggie "Buprenorphine 0.16mg/0.1ml TD, Give 0.05ml every 12 hours." There's no expiry date, my favorite tech told me that.
Injectable BUPE might be an option but cannot leave the vet's office in Canada. Does anyone remember the 60 Minutes episode where the extra filthy compounding pharmacy was responsible for a bunch of people having fungus in the spinal fluid? They're not well regulated in Canada so a little research might be in order. I felt like having a shower after visiting the one down the street, completely unprofessional which is unethical in my book. Best of luck, tag me anytime.

Sorry, incomplete answer. We get it from our amazing vet who is always open to new ideas. Her Dad was a vet. She was on the phone with us every day, twice a day with our first sugar cat Nigel. I bake cookies for her and her staff, they are all amazing.

@Marje and Gracie Marje, hope you've had a nice day. :) Today is the sixth day from when Maggie last went below 50. You suggested a OTJ trial in a week if she stayed mostly green. Can you please take a look at her SS and tell me if you think I should start an OTJ trial on Saturday or keep at it?
I had one dose of oral bupe, so I gave that last night. Seemed to help her chill out, and today she appears to be feeling better. Pursuing transdermal and/or injectable bupe from my vet.

I’ve been watching her SS each day. Typically, we like overall numbers to be below 100 before we start a trial with only occasional numbers above 100.

I was looking at 12/14 to start counting from but then she had that 120 and more than occasional numbers over 100. If we start counting a.m. cycle of 12/18, we’ve got three more days and she’s seeing much more green.

She has been “mostly” in numbers below 100 if you feel strongly about it but I’d like to see her go into a trial strong, IMHO.

What do you think?
