Of course we wake up to our very first green AMBG and I overslept a bit so I got her test in about 5 minutes before her normal shot time. Per the Becoming Data Ready to Shoot page, I am stalling for now since it is my first time shooting green. I plan to test her again in about 10 minutes which will be 15 minutes past the first BG test.

If her numbers are lower, do I keep stalling? What about if they're the same somehow?

Here is your BoS award for shooting your first green. :D

The vet put on her Libre and she managed to get it off within 10 minutes of being home. The vet didn't use much or any vet bond according to my husband because they were worried about how red her skin is where the others were. So now we're out almost $100 and still have no Libre. I am seriously so upset and I know that Tessa can sense it because she is hiding from me and running away from me every time I even enter the room she's in. I feel awful. :(

Managed to get a +4. My husband tried it and couldn't get it. Now he knows how hard it's been for me doing it alone when he's at work lol.

Oh no! :(

That higher +4 means you can take a break till PMPS.

We called Costco to get a refill on the Libre and we're going to try to install this one ourselves. I sent a skin prep wipe with my husband so the vet could use that (it's recommended by Abbott if you need more stickiness) and I think the vet may have used it without letting it dry fully. The Libre practically fell off of her. We're also going to make her wear a t-shirt so the skin can heal where her first 2 Libres were, she's been licking those spots a lot and they're pretty raw. Poor baby.

I installed the Libre sensor myself! Now we wait the excruciating hour to see if it's working properly. I put a Tegaderm bandage over top of it and then wrapped a self adherent bandage around her body to cover the sensor and prevent her from getting to it. I also put a pet shirt on her so she can't lick the spots where the old sensors were. She's not a happy camper but I think she'll get used to it soon enough.

Still in the blue for her PMPS! Today looks similar to 12/16 but I don't have the full picture so things could have gone a bit different.

Trying to decide whether we should bump up to 1.75 tomorrow. She's getting some good numbers on 1.5 until she bounces.

See what she does tonight. I think the first 12 or 24 hours on the Libre are not reliable? I read something like that a while back from somebody else who used a Libre.

Yeah, it's the first 12 hours that it may not be completely accurate. It shows a symbol telling you to check manually with a glucometer. I'm going to get a manual test in a +2 and scan her Libre at the same time so we can see how close they are.

+2 was 249 on the ReliOn and 282 on the Libre. My plan is to keep up with manual tests for preshots just so I keep my skills sharp and so that she stays used to getting her ears pricked. It will be nice to see how close the Libre is to manual readings.

Good job on installing it!! Congrats! You can now save the vet bill every two weeks, and probably some stress on kitty’s part as well.

Sounds like the vet definitely didn’t use enough sticky anything. Without a shirt or wrap or something, glue is pretty much a necessity on cats. Actually even humans often use tape over theirs, and/or skin-tack. The adhesive the Libre comes with doesn’t hold up well against activity, laying/rolling on it, etc. As for the reddening, I’ve seen that and worse on Jackson - he actually took skin off once (it actually scabbed up afterward) when he yanked the sensor off too soon! From my observations so far, it seems to be caused by a combination of applying too much glue (though with not enough it comes off, so, eh…) and then lack of patience in getting it off gently. To do so takes oil or other glue remover (oil is the non-toxic but slower method), and time. (Also patience with any bedding or furniture kitty might oil-mark over the next couple of hours as they move around the house doing cat things.) Which process the vet probably isn’t likely to go through when they’re doing a quick swap.

With minimal glue, in my experience so far the sensor pretty much comes free on its own as the hair grows - but then has the strong risk of coming off early. So, you pick your battle. Myself, I’m still fine tuning the right amount of glue, and giving the old sensor plenty of oil time. As long as Jack doesn’t “help”, it comes off without harm. Any problems with injured skin to this point have been entirely his own doing.

All that being said, some cats (from my reading) just seem to be more sensitive to the glue/adhesive. Taking the time and effort to remove it gently in two weeks, and then seeing what the skin underneath looks like (there should actually be some fur too by that point) will tell you whether that’s the case or not.

I used a nice wide section of self adherent wrap so I'm reallllly hoping that that keeps it on nicely. If I notice that she's messing with it then we'll go from there but I started and ended the wrap basically right on top of her spine so that will be a tough place for her to easily reach, I think. She's not the most flexible kitty because she has a wide ribcage.

The vet had already shaved her so that was one less step for us to do, they definitely shave a much larger section than I would have personally but it worked in our favor because we could put Tegaderm down on top of it.

She's doing well with the shirt but the arms are a little wonky so I'll probably order her a shirt that's "sleeveless" so she can be more comfortable. She looks super cute wearing it though.

I think that the first Libre sensor we had did pull off some skin because it's taken quite a while to heal, that could be from her licking it so much though. The vet didn't seem alarmed so I'm not going to worry too much about it either.

It will heal. We worry and hate seeing our kitties hurt, but… it will heal. :bighug:Also yeah, the licking too much doesn’t help lol. Sandpaper tongue…

She is cute! Such a pretty kitty!
