Hello LL: Hope all love bugs and beans had a nice summer and now enjoying the holiday's!!
Skippy has been great and last we posted he had 7 teeth removed but loves his new smile. Sometime middle of November I consulted with a holistic vet that put him on some vitamines and Chinese herbs which he did great for 2 week went from 2.95 down to 2 but he just wanted more of the juice so we are back to 3.00 and I have stopped with the herbs but continue with the vitamines. I have decided to switch to Levemir because I will be leaving sometime mid summer next year overseas and felt that the handling of Levemir would be better. I have one more solstar Lantus Pen and orderd called my vet this morning to get me a perscription for Levemir pen. She is not familiar with Levemir and can not find the paperwork I hand delivered to her 2 years ago on Levemir (duh) so I am reaching out to the MOST RELIABLE EDUCATED AND HELPFUL BUNCH to assist us on the dosing. He is currently on 3.00 units what dose should I start him on. She said 1.50 is that good or does anyone have any opinions. Once you advise me of the dose amount do I wait for 3 cycles and then increase?

Your help would be appreciated. PS we are also trying to do the raw thing and it is a challenge and a half grr_red

Thank

Could you kindly update your SS for Skippy, Birten? I am sure others will be by to help you with the switch, but they do need to see an updated SS. Napoleon/Nicole posted today that they too will be switching over to Lev!
I wish you well with the switch!
Maybe let us know when the SS is up to date, okay? Glad to hear that all is well with Skippy!

Hi Birten

When we switched to Lev we were on a f1 of Lantus. Started on a 1 of Lev, then down to a sk1 (course now we're back to a 1 ). I believe what I was told is that it's a bit less than the Lantus dose. I think reducing by half would be way too much. Maybe start with 2.5 or 2.75...

You could send Jojo a pm on fb also.

Good luck with Lev!! And nice to "see" you here

Now wouldn't that be good for me to update LOL!! I have the glucometer looking me right in the face and I will update it before my client comes or in the evening...

Shadow's nadir is usually at +8...the famous late nadir of Lev...here is something that was written just today in Napoleon's condo by Sienne:

Sienne and Gabby said:
....Generally, the initial dose of Lev is as you and Perry both noted -- approx. 30% less than your current dose of Lantus. However, you may need to bring the dose up after a few cycles. It's only at switching over that you need less Lev. After the start up, the dose is what Napoleon will need and it has nothing to do with Lantus. I also suspect when you read about not mixing Lev with any other insulin, it meant don't mix it in the syringe. Lantus has the same precautionary note.

Lev is not more long acting than Lantus. The nadir is later in the cycle. If you look at Miriam/Putty's SS, you'll see where the Lantus vs. Lev nadir is. Putty is having nadirs much later in the cycle (and now Miriam is learning to power nap).
