Just an update on Sam today. Looking better. His amps was 450. I shot 1.0 Lantus. Couldn't check till 4 pm but was down to 296 then. Yeah! At least it's heading in the right direction. Will check again at 7 & 10 pm & update. Don't know where we would be w/o all you wonderful people. I just can't say thank you enough. Also I want to say a big thanks to my wonderful husband who has been willing to share all his "stuff" with Sam...insulin, syringes, tester & strips. Told him Sam would share with him once he gets his own! :-D

And yes Marjorie, I checked with Sam and he is just fine being called by his first name!

Sam's pmps was 396. Will check again at +3. Gave him 1.0 & will keep monitoring until I get further feedback. I feel so bad for messing him up so much so hopefully things will turn around for him within a few days.

466 tonight at +3. Gonna hang in there. Btw, should I say when the +3 (for example) is like, pmps +3?

Hi Sam and Magna(?) and welcome to Lantus Land! Looks like a good day today for Sam. We are glad you are here and look forward to following Sam's progress. Ask as many questions as you need. We all want Sam to do well.

Good shooting and what a nice drop for that +9. :-D Sam may have been even lower since many cats have their nadir at +4 to +6. BTW since we have members all over the world we usuall don't use actual times, put "+ hours" after the shot. So, your 4pm test was at +9. We need to look at tests in relation to when the insulin was given, the actual time doesn't matter.

A couple of other things to remember:
  • --You need several days at the same dose for the shed to adjust and become stable before you see how well the dose is really working.
    -- As he starts to get good numbers he may "bounce". When the liver detects a lower BG amount than it is used to, it can dump glycogen as a protective measure. We just have to wait for it to pass

There are a few kitties here that champion bouncers, Tess among them. :roll:

Thanks for the tips! So much to learn and remember, but so many wonderful people to help! I am staying at 1.0 until I get more feedback...you guys know best!

Nice day for Sam and please tell him I appreciate allowing us to call him "Sam". I agree with Ann that with a little consistency now, we'll be able to better tell what he wants to do with his juice!!
