Chester's NEVER been this low (on the AlphaTrak meter so take off about 30 points or so) at amps. And this is on just a trace of insulin 2x for the last several days. I was expecting the shed to be draining and even warned DH to expect some higher numbers. We're trying to get Chester in a safe range for me to leave on Friday for four days. 94 at amps ISN'T that place for me. Beautiful number, but not when DH will be alone to deal with it.

I'm stalling for 30 minutes, then retesting, but if he's not SIGNIFICANTLY higher, I'm seriously toying with the idea of no a.m. shot. Never done that before. I've not been comfortable lately shooting before 150 or 160.

How long should I delay breakfast...30 minutes, an hour?

And the BIG question: If I don't give him insulin this morning, is it physically possible for him to hypo today?

Re: 12/19 HELP PLEASE with AM DOSE Chester's amps 94

Do not feed retest in 30. You have not had a 30 point variance between the AT and your OT.

Re: 12/19 HELP PLEASE with AM DOSE Chester's amps 94

I NEVER have a 30 point variance between the AT and the OT, but I DO have a 30 point variance between the AT and any other human meter like the Relion or the Freestyle. Doesn't matter what meter I'm using at this point, he's gotten down in the mid to low 60s even on the AlphaTrak in the past week so I'm nervous (VERY) about shooting this low.

Re: 12/19 HELP PLEASE with AM DOSE Chester's amps 94

He is alright Jaye. Relax, see what his next number is. I never had more than a 10-15% variance between my ReliOn and the AT and that was at higher numbers. You are doing fine.

Re: 12/19 HELP PLEASE with AM DOSE Chester's amps 94

If I don't shoot, is it physically possible for him to hypo later...I can't see how, but I'll be the first to say that I don't totally understand this disease.

Re: 12/19 HELP PLEASE with AM DOSE Chester's amps 94

I have read they cannot hypo on a drop. That said, he does need to eat. Lets see what the next number is and go from there. I'm her for about another hour. Hang in there.

Re: 12/19 HELP PLEASE with AM DOSE Chester's amps 94

Thanks... I wanted him off insulin, but I was kind of hoping he would wait until I got back from my Christmas vacation. Hubby is ill-prepared to handle anything that needs thinking, even with flowcharts and specific instructions plastered to the fridge.

Re: 12/19 HELP PLEASE with AM DOSE Chester's +12=94, +12.5=1

He's up to 113....still too low for my comfort level. I want him to be in the mid to higher 100s for my trip. Hubby will not be reliable in a hypo situation. He just about went spastic this morning when he was unsuccessful giving another of my cats a pill.

I hate to throw Chester's schedule off for more than an hour, though. If I feed now, though, I don't want to shoot...unless it's even less than a trace which might be physically impossible.

Re: 12/19 HELP PLEASE with AM DOSE Chester's +12=94, +12.5=1

I don't think he'll hypo on a drop. You'll be home to monitor, feed, and test, right?

Re: 12/19 HELP PLEASE with AM DOSE Chester's +12=94, +12.5=1

Today, yes... but not after today (during the day) and not during the Christmas holidays at all. Poor little guy has his head stuck in an empty bowl...waiting!

I guess I could see just how absolutely small I can finnagle this dose, but DH won't be able to duplicate it, that's a guarantee.

Re: 12/19 HELP PLEASE with AM DOSE Chester's +12=94, +12.5=1

I think you can shoot a drop on this but, what I think and what you are comfortable with are two different things. You have to do what makes you comfortable. Skipping will drain his shed and probably send his numbers up. When are you leaving? Another thing is Chester needs to eat. No food will give low numbers-food makes the pancreas work.

Re: 12/19 HELP PLEASE with AM DOSE Chester's +12=94, +12.5=1

Okay, I'll test him now one more time (poor guy) and feed. Then shoot one drop and see what the day brings. Thanks for your help!

Re: 12/19 HELP PLEASE with AM DOSE Chester's +12=94, +12.5=1

You will be around to monitor today. I'll be her for another 15-30 minutes. Post your next number. Try and relax.

Re: 12/19 Chester's +12=94, +12.5=113,+12.75=114

Only went up one point from the last test. Should be an interesting day. I have the syringe where I literally can't squeeze out more than one drop. He's scarfing his breakfast now and very grateful for it...purring away.

Re: 12/19 Chester's +12=94, +12.5=113,+12.75=114

Okay, I did the one drop. Never, ever thought I'd have him down that low from the 7 or so units were were at months ago. He is officially one hour off his schedule.

Re: 12/19 Chester's +12=94, +12.5=113, amps 114

Thanks! That was going to be my next question...when to check. I shudder to think how my DH is going to handle this for four days.

Re: 12/19 Chester's +12=94, +12.5=113, amps 114

Can he call you after each test, and get advise on when to test next?

Re: 12/19 Chester's +3=228,+4.25=178

I thought for sure that he'd be quite high already, but it looks as if he's spiked and is already on his way down...on one drop...amazing.

I'm sticking with the one drop tonight, although he's quite high. Funny how, what seemed low such a short time ago is now considered high.

Don't want another morning of below 100 amps with my trip coming up soon.
