Autumn's is down to literally a drop of Lev. If she pulls another low there is absolutely no where else to reduce her to.

Casey on the other hand I took him back up to the 1.5u since his preshots keep creeping up.

Finally Christmas presents done and so are the cookies with the 7 dozen Snicker Doodles that I baked yesterday.

Re: 12/19 Autumn amps-102, Casey amps 209

Yay for Autumn! I'm jealous. I've still got Christmas shopping to do and then the wrapping.

As a Lev girl she shouldn't be dropping already. Especially since she is basically sniffing the insulin at this point. Maybe whatever bug she had last week kicked something into gear. She is still eating less than she was but maintaining weight and she was getting a little fluffy around the middle so perhaps the slow down on food goes with the new control over her blood sugar. Dunno

Re: 12/19 Autumn +6-30, Casey +6-33 Hypo Watch x 2

Ah the joy of Two Sugarcats!!! Lol If I wasn't already going grey these two would have me headed that way.

Well there is nowhere down in dose to go with Autumn so either it is an OTJ trial or shoot as needed with her.

Casey now he got gravyfied just now because I don't know him well enough to trust his regular LC lunch to pull him out of the hypo. But thankfully he nadirs earlier than Autumn.

I'm hoping for Autumn. But like you said, not knowing how LC will effect Casey, there's not much you could do at the time. Knowing all you needed with Autumn was LC was lucky, you got spoiled by that. ;-)

Rarely has Lucian needed more than a little LC, but it took months to figure that out. If he drops below 40, I'll still give a little MC, and it that doesn't bring him up, a tad of HC and then have to battle the number spike. ohmygod_smile Then the other cats have to finish it. Don't think it hurts their feelings any.

Autumn has a new game plan...Shoot as needed. Not shooting her unless she goes over 120, if she's in normal numbers even high normal she's not getting insulin...Dear Santa Claws..

Now to break my other toy. lol

@Holly

You see Autumn shouldn't be able to do this, she should be insulin dependent for life so right now I'm ecstatic..See I adopted her from DCIN almost 2 years ago after her previous owner chose not to treat her at all. She went 10+ months without insulin or diet change before I adopted her. In fact she was so frail she was ground transported because we were afraid she wouldn't survive the flight from Minnesota to Nebraska.

If you want her full story its on DCIN's blogspot. Her original name was Lulu/BooBoo. I named her Autumn.

Poor sweetie. What a great story and what a turn around! She is one lucky kitty. Makes me a little misty eyed. I'll definitely have to check out the details on DCIN.

Mel, if she's so low on Lev you can scarcely measure it, maybe you could pick up some Prozinc, which is U-40 and dose prn.

To give you the Reader's Digest version

She's a Maine Coon mix..health weight 14lbs when she arrived she weighed less than 6lbs with a blood sugar of 536 and moderate ketones. So matted she could barely walk and had been that way so long the mats had rubbed "bed sores" into her sides and where her legs connected to her body She was also so dehydrated that I could barely get blood out of her ear to test.

The fact she's alive is a miracle...To be possible going OTJ...Well it should not be possible she shouldn't even have a pancreas at this point.

I can measure her dose but today she dropped to 30 on a fat zero. Quite literally on a single drop. Now I will admit that I'm playing with the idea of a little NPH to just tap her down when she needs it.

I once read some instructions on a Children with diabetes board that explained how to dilute the NPH using sterile saline, and drawing each up into the syringe separately, rolling to mix well, and discharging the excess, each time a shot was needed.

Maybe ask the pharmacist about making a U-10 dilution that way?

Such a great, great story! Autumn seriously hit the lottery when she got you. A maine coon mix? That's what Max is. Love the breed. He even has a little chirpy meow. He's not quite as big, only 12.5 lbs. ;-) Not as dramatic a story as Autumn, but I got him as an adult kitty rescue. He was matted too and had been in a cage so long he could hardly jump on my lap when I got him home. That was 7 years ago. He turned around pretty quickly and is king of his castle.

Hmmmm there is actually a compounding pharmacy here of all the odd places. I might try contacting them to see if they could make a dilution. Because once she's down she hangs therejust every now and then she creeps up and needs the edge knocked off.

Ya'll give me hope. Lucian never had it rough, he's had a cooshy life and been spoiled rotten and just maybe we can get him stable. That's all I ask, just stable, under renal threshold. Not OTJ. Just stable. At one time I allowed myself to think that there may be a chance that he could go OTJ when he was doing so well on Lev. But now I don't care.

Talking to my son tonight, he mentioned putting him down. I can't do that! There is nothing else wrong with him but FD and that shouldn't be a death sentence. I just haven't found what works for him yet. I know he's 15, but according to his bloodwork, he should have a few years left. Vet said his test results looked great for a 15 yo, even with FD. My son is not one to recommend that, but he knows what I went thru with my cat Ripley and my Golden Retriever, in 2 yrs time and he worries about me. Don't want you to think badly of him, he isn't THAT type of person, he just worries a lot about me.
