12/19/20 - Squeaky! AMPS 386 +6=292 PMPS = 75 !!! Shoot low to stay low !

Don't forget the tunes of his favorite music. And sing along, Ollie liked Barry Manalow, Celine Dion, Beach Boys, but her favorite was Kenny Rogers. She would purr up a storm when I sang to his songs.

I noticed that today. He was agitated until I put on classical choral Christmas music. Then he settled right down. Amazing.

Still okay to shoot? He didn't eat much. He only ate about 7 pieces of pork. A small snack. Okay he ate about 7 orijen treats. That is enough.

Hey, Jan, did you shoot? Do you have all that you need in case Squeaky goes low, like HC and lots of test strips? I know he hates the pokies but it might be a busy evening for you both. I'll be up for another hour and a half in case you need some hand holding. Just make sure he doesn't eat too much right now in case you need to steer him with food.

Just saw you shot. Great! Shoot low to stay low!

Good job shooting that green, again!

Since Squeaky has been going down all day, I'd get some early tests in the PM cycle. Don't wait until +3.

Thanks Bhooma and Katherine, yes, shot. Yes losing sleep tonight. Yes feeding about every 1 hour hopefully he will cooperate. Yes HC, honey and test strips.

Thanks Wendy. Since 75 is really a low number, I will probably test at +1.5. Thanks for your availability!

I'm really surprised that he went back down green again so quickly! Fast bounce!

Ladies, he was 101 at +1.5 after eating 11 pieces of pork at +1. Does this mean he's going up and I get to sleep? Or stay awake and check again at +3 to make sure he is rising?

How far till +3? Half hour?

Well technically speaking yes a half hour. I was going to test about 10 - 15 minutes early.

Oh, and he ran away a little while ago when he saw me preparing the lancet. He is cooperative if I test every 6 hours. More often, and he gets nervous, neurotic, and upset.

Test again when you normally would. He should be after onset.

Just wanted to comment, the size of dose doesn’t matter. A cat needs however much insulin they need.

Thanks Wendy, I would usually not test at 1.5 and 3. I would just wait until 6. Squeaky seems to do just fine if I only test him 4 times a day (2 ps and 2 mid-cycles). Once I start adding more tests, he gets kind of neurotic. So if possible, I wouldn't test him until AMPS.

What does "He should be after onset." mean? Thanks.

Okay he went over to his dish and he's eating by himself now.

She meant that you should test after his onset which you have and he was higher than at PMPS.
I think he should be fine for the night since he is higher at +3.

Thanks Bhooma. I don't know what onset means in this context. Does it mean the shot?

Since he went over to his dish twice this evening and ate, I think I also trust he should be fine until AMPS. If he looks strange or anything I can always test. After I wake up.

Thanks so much and have a great day.

If your kitty has onset, then numbers should be going down. If they aren't, it's likely to be a quiet cycle.

Some important concepts from the New to the Group Sticky Note:

  • Onset - the length of time before insulin reaches the bloodstream & begins lowering blood glucose
  • Peak/Nadir - the lowest point in the cycle
  • Duration - the length of time insulin continues to lower blood glucose

Thanks for the review, I can't always remember things and I learn best through example! I'll have to write these down and look at them a few days until they sink in. Thank you for your patience and kindness, Wendy!

Hey, Squeaky appears to be going down again!
