It's been a while since I posted an update on here, hello everyone!

Monty is doing well in remission, his numbers are staying nice and green :)

I had a question about diet. My vet once told me his optimum weight is around 5.8kg, but I did a recent weigh in and he's at 6.2kg. I've reduced his food by about 20% and will weigh him once a week. He was looking a bit chubbier.

If he remains overweight, does that mean he's at a higher risk of relapse?

He's very food motivated and has definitely noticed I'm giving him less food!

Hi Tom and Monty! Great to hear from you and hear Monty is doing so well..

Being over weight is one of the risk factors for feline diabetes. I remember when Sheba was diagnosed the vet said to me to keep Sheba ‘lean and mean’ as it’s best for all cats. It’s harder said then done especially if you have a cat that loves its food.
With my current cats I try and keep them on the lean side and weigh them frequently.

Don’t try and lose the weight too quickly as it’s not good for the cat. Here is a link to cats and weight loss.
