Good times yesterday…

Started River on the first of her new supplements/meds yesterday: RxZyme! She seems to be eating fine with it mixed into her food. She has a tendency to wander to Brixie's bowl when she gets bored with her food, though, so I have to be sure to get it into her first little dollop of food, before she starts grazin'.

The kitties are coming with us to Christmas at my in-laws' this year! We're staying in a hotel for at least one night that is purportedly cat friendly…we'll see how that goes

Yay for the green box!

I hope River keeps good numbers for you. Safe travels!

So much for that dose. Congrats on the reduction.

Up a little please River.

Could you change the subject line to read either +12 40 or PMBG 40, so we know you didn’t shoot that. Cats!

WOW! What a surprise that PMBG must have been! She's putting you through your paces Paige!
River, it's nice to see green numbers but can you stick to the darker green please!?!:eek::rolleyes:

Paige - for the digestive enzymes I use, it's not so much a total daily dose, but rather to be sure the enzymes are in all her food - In other words, not to put the whole dose in the first bit of food, but it should be evenly distributed in all her food.
So glad you are taking the kitties with you - are the cats good travelers? Luckily, Murphy is a great passenger. I do give him 50 mg of gabapentin before a road trip though
I have both denamarin and ursodiol I can give you

Why is this? That wasn’t specified on the packaging or in Dr. Thompson’s notes at all. I’m doing the best I can. I have never been so busy with work and holidays too. Just trying not to kill my cat.

The cats are pretty good in the car. Vocal but good afaik. It’s nit that far.

Both meds will be here soon.

Cats, indeed. She inched up to 61 and we shot 1.5 tonight. I’m feeling like that was a mistake now.

@MrWorfMen's Mom your lips to god’s ears, she’s having trouble remembering which green to go to.

Good to see she has popped up for you and is surfing. The 1.75 unit depot was busy tonight. Next timr, you see her low early in the cycle, don’t be afraid to break about the HC, though what you did tonight worked well.

Thanks Wendy — yeah, I've really never FULLY dealt with a hypo-close-call, so I honestly don't know what to do.
She's having a rager of a bounce this morning, so…awesome, Riv.

My understanding of the digestive enzymes are as follows: the pancreas secretes digestive enzymes in response to food - giving exogenous digestive enzymes decreases the work of the pancreas (you are providing the enzymes so the pancreas doesn't have to). By putting the full amount in a little bit of food, and then later giving River food without the enzymes, the pancreas has to work putting out the enzymes for the food without the RxZymes. So the enzymes should be in all food for the most benefit. Maybe I'm not explaining it clearly - does that make sense?

Here's a paragraph on the topic from ibdkitties.net "
DIGESTIVE ENZYMES – Digestive enzymes should be given on a regular basis to all cats. They break down any food and hair trapped in the intestines. Proteins are broken down by protease enzymes, lipase digests fats, and amylase digests starches. If your cat’s enzyme production is impaired, food will not be properly digested or absorbed. But if your cat has ulcers or bleeding ulcers, digestive enzymes should not be used because there is no protective mucilage normally present, and the digestive enzymes will go to work on the exposed muscle. If your cat has pancreatitis please check with your vet first before giving any kind of enzymes."

Interesting. Thank you! Is it possible to give too much of these??

I am not sure but probably - I use a different brand (NaturVet) and the instructions on the packaging say to give 1/4 rounded tsp to each cup of wet or dry food"

Per CUP?! Oh lord. Will be checking in with the doctor about this one. These directions say to give a scoop with each meal. Delightfully vague.
