Note: Blue got injection (0.89ml) Cerenia last night so am hoping this will put paid to what I now understand --- thanks to @JL and Chip -- is MRSA. The good part of getting the culture was that the vet said it revealed the result was very low, not invasive. The reason for going on Convenia, as I now see by doing some reading, is that MRSA resistance can be greater to oral antibiotics and that the injectable would be preferable to trying different oral medications.
Blue is doing well. He's got the 5Rs down pat (well, except for purring. Blue doesn't purr, ever, but he talks a lot!). The callus looks nearly completely healed and I've dabbed a little of the Isoderm gel on it for good measure.
