AMPS this morning 211, shot .5 unit. Back to work today and no way to test Max while I'm gone. :-( I don't work nearby where I live, so I can't go home and test at lunch. I'm hoping I can eventually convince my parents, who are retired, to help and train them, but they aren't ready right now. I'm pretty squeamish, so I understand. 6 cyles...yay! When Max hit the greens the two times, I'm wondering if maybe I did a fat .5 unit without totally realizing; still getting used to the syringes and tiny lines (pics on the forum of the syringe and line and dose are super helpful!). I'll see how this week goes and consider a fat .5 unit maybe after 7 days. Any thoughts? I feel like I'm still figuring out what I'm doing. Based on weight, vet had recommended starting out at 1 unit, but I was chicken, so I know I may need to go up.

12/15
PPMS - 177, shot .5 unit
+3 - 127
+5 - 121

12/16
AMPS - 211, shot .5 unit
PMPS - 204, shot .5 unit
+3 - 106

Re: 12/16 Max AMPS 211

You and Max are doing great!!! Hon one thing I learned real quick after having 5 sugar cats and using 3 different insulins...Every change you're a newbie all over again. lol.

What I'd do in you're shoes is leave him where he is until the weekend. The run a formal curve and go from there.

Agree with Mel. ^

Besides that 211 looks good, he's below renal threshold, but not low enough to cause a problem while you're gone. At least the chance of that is slim.

I think that's a good number, with you away from home. Less stress on you mentally, while you're gone.

You have to remember, because Lantus is a depot insulin, rarely does any change, including a fat dose, show immediately. That's why you have to wait days on a dose, for them to 'settle in'.
It doesn't happen, usually, for the first several cycles. Anytime you change the dose, up or down, it will usually take several cycles for you to see the difference in his numbers.

Those pretty greens were just him getting used to the Lantus. It takes time, but he'll settle and be more 'leveled out' and show you that nice Lantus curve of numbers, from AMPS thru his Nadir to PMPS. You want to see a nice smile on his spread sheet. :-D

Re: 12/16 Max AMPS 211

Max is looking good!!! Don't worry about mid-cycle testing during the week. I too have over an hour commute to/from work each day and I only live 18 miles away. The beauty of Washington, DC and its traffic. Don't fret about getting mid-cycle test until the weekend. Just get those AMPS and PMPS. That's what I do - I pick one day during the weekend to be home around my sugarcat's mid-cycle numbers where I know he usually nadirs and get some tests then. You can relax about that. A lot of us work away from home and still manage our sugar's care.

I guess I'm still half-awake or something because I totally commented on the wrong post (from 12/13 instead). ohmygod_smile I agree with everyone: you're doing a great job and this is a nice dose for him to be on currently. :-D

I live 11 miles away and it can take me sometimes up to an hour and a half to get to/from work (on really bad days, two hours easily). Beauty of living in SoCal. Luckily, traffic isn't so bad during lunchtime and it only takes me about a half-hour roundtrip to get home, so I can grab a mid-cycle test, then. I also get to work from home a couple of days a week (but that might be changing next year  ). You work with what you have. If I don't get mid-cycle tests every day, I'm not too concerned because I can usually make up for it at night or the days I'm working from home.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like I don't have the worst commute. I drive 33 miles / 45 minutes each way. I can tell I have a lot to learn about Lantus. I've read and read and re-read, but I can see I'm still relating it to how PZI worked. I'll settle in and see what the first week brings back on insulin.
