Hi guys. Hardey says hi too.

We've been doing really well OTJ... at least until last night. Not sure what is going on. About two months ago he was diagnosed with either IBD or lymphoma of the intestines. I think I finally have the belly issues and diarrea issues under control (without the steroids). We switched food to Freshpet Vital, which supposedly has 4% carbs.

Last week, we had great levels (he was on the new food a bit and I was checking more to make sure it didn't go up). On Friday, we switched completely and last night his BG was the highest since he went OTJ. Obviously, I'm going to stop the new food. Probably have to deal with tummy issues again. :(

My question is - if I just switch, is it possible that will bring it back down or do I need to start insulin again? How long will the food stay in his system?

I am so frustrated. Help.

Re: 12/16 Hardey AMBG 166

If it's only the food, then removing it should bring him back down, but if the chart is right, that sure doesn't make much sense, does it? It's probably worth a try though to go back to what was working and seeing if he comes back down within a few days time

If he doesn't, then you'll know it wasn't the food causing the higher numbers and will have to look elsewhere. For now, I'd probably just hold off on the insulin...he's not too high at this point, and if it was the food, changing back should bring it down without any insulin

Good luck! I know it's frustrating when they throw these kinds of puzzles at us!

Re: 12/16 Hardey AMBG 166

I was so excited last week when he was in the 70's. Can't believe how quickly it changed....

PMBG is lower. I feel better, but am bummed that it probably is the food. Hardey loved it more than he's eaten anything in a long time. Any suggestions as to something that is similar that might be okay?

i don't see the ambg 166 on the spreadsheet, unless it was on the evening of the 15th?

there are some raw foods that you buy prepared listed on the catinfo.org site. i wonder if there's anything there that would work for you. i'm also wondering - if it's raw you want to do, you might be able to make your own and have that work.

i think i'd get the food issue worked out first and then figure out if his BGs are going to stay down in OTJ range or if he needs a little more help with insulin.

Did you get the "as fed" values for the food from the manufacturer? If you're using the guaranteed analysis values to calculate the carbs, there's a possibility that it's higher in carbs than you think.

I'd also give Hardey's numbers a chance to come down. You may be seeing the effects of some kind of stress.

Thanks guys. Just fixed the chart. Forgot to put the am number on the chart. Sorry about that... Been a long day... lol

I took the values off the catinfo.com list. It is listed near the bottom, am I reading it wrong? page 25 http://www.catinfo.org/docs/FoodChartPublic9-22-12.pdf

Hopefully they will be low again tomorrow. We did have my 17 year old niece here on Friday night. She didn't bother him, but he doesn't like strangers. He has never had his BG go high when she's been here before. Who knows.
