I am away from home for 12 hours a day M-F so I have little leeway with injection/feeding times. My goal is not necessarily to get him OTJ, it's to keep him regulated and safe. I worry about him all day when I'm at work.

Should I hold at .5 for now or reduce the dose a bit? I have a VERY hard time seeing the insulin in the syringe at less than .5 (but .5 isn't a treat either).

Thank you all!

I know I sound like a broken record but... You've got to get some tests during the PM cycle. This is especially important if you are not home during the day.

What I would suggest is that you follow the Start Low Go Slow (SLGS) approach. With this approach to dosing, you hold each dose change for 7 days and reductions in dose are given if the numbers fall below 90. However, you reduce the dose by 0.25u or less since you are using Lantus.

It looks like you shot a "skinny" 0.5u this morning. I would stick with that dose.

I know I need to try with the PM cycle, but I get less than 5 hours a sleep most nights as it is. If I wake up, I'm not going back to sleep. I'm off work for a week between Christmas and New Year's, so I know I can do better with testing then.

Jennifer,
Do you have the syringes with the 1/2 unit markings?

Jenn --

Can you get a before bed test at night? If you can get a +2 or a +3 test, it will let you know if George's numbers are dropping and if you need to get another test. I'm not suggesting you get up in the middle of the night. Just test before you go to sleep.
