12/16 Clare AMPS 350 Appetite Stimulant?

Clare is bouncing today after clearing her former bounce last night. She's very hungry! She seems to go from disinterested to ravenous these days. :roll:

She has a wellness visit to the vet this afternoon, in preparation for our leaving on a trip to England on Sunday to see our children and grandchildren.

I'm hoping to have a good appetite stimulant available while we're away. Jenna, our catsitter/caregiver, will be in charge.

Is cypro the one that most folks prefer? I've read several posts in the past but can't remember what they said about them.

Cypro is the one I like. Just a tiny sliver gets Max eating. It's another ECID so I would try it first to see if it works for Clare. Lots of people use mirtazapine but it can cause a serious condition in some cats so I definitely wouldn't be comfortable leaving and giving instructions to give mirt. The anecdote for that reaction to mirt, serotonin syndrome is cypro by the way.

Cyproheptadine is our favorite too...it can be given twice a day if needed where mirtz is only every few days (I think)

Our script says 1/2 tablet twice a day as needed, but if I need to give it to China, it only takes about 1/16th (a crumb) and she's looking for a wandering water buffalo to take down!

It works almost too well at times....lol

Sending good vetty vines for Clare today. I know mirtz has some crazy side effects. I think cypro is safer.

Why do you want an appetite stimulant? Is Clare not eating or do you want to be sure she eats while you're away?

If she's not eating, then an appetite stimulant may be appropriate but you need to know why she's not eating. If she's nauseated, you don't want to give an appetite stimulant.

If you want to be sure she eats while you're gone, I don't know that I'd suggest giving a drug to an otherwise healthy cat. Try adding FortiFlora to her food or sprinkling freeze dried chicken on top of her food.

I don't know how long you are disappearing but the week I left in past years...
I had my cats favorite added to the food by the caregiver and only pulled out the cans that she usually was reliable on eating.

My cats favorite is raw shrimp, cut in tiny little pieces.
