+6 = 65 LC food
+7 = 76

I was sooo hoping for a reducie last night and it sooo didn't happen It was a lovely surf, but I think I'm going to have to increase again.

I have kind of a silly question, but humor me...Is it a good idea to withhold food just to get numbers to go down? Or, should you keep feeding the small amounts throughout the cycle regardless of the numbers? I guess I'm wondering if I could have steered into a reducie if I hadn't fed him at +3 last night? That doesn't seem like the right thing to do.

Happy Purrsday to all who visit! Strength and hugs and healing vines to all furries and beans who need them.

Re: 12/16 Buster AMPS 146 - feeding question

Hi Tara

Excellent question really, goes right to the heart of "steering" numbers.

I think in your case, as you said you were thinking of needing to increase, it's probably best that
you fed to avoid a number that might have "earned" a decrease!

I try not to test too soon after I know Simon's eaten, but I'm only really strict about it Pre-Shot (2 hours ideally) otherwise
I think it's best to try to keep things as "typical" as possible with feeding/testing.

With steering, once a cat is giving mid-greens, it could be possible to get reductions several days in a row, when
also quite possibly they'd be failed reductions because they were based (for example) on withholding food at 41,
just so it would fall to 39.

Again, great question and it will be interesting to see what others have to say.

Have a great day!

Re: 12/16 Buster AMPS 146 - feeding question

There's no one "right" answer to your question. The longer a cat spends in green numbers, the greater the chance that his pancreas will heal. If your cat is surfing nicely along, small amounts of food will prolong the surf providing your cat isn't hugely carb sensitive. Whether you feed may also depend on how fast numbers are dropping, where in the cycle you are, when the last dose reduction was, etc. Personally, I don't always think faster is better. However, our kitties have a way of letting us know when they're getting too much insulin and unless you've been feeding HC by the bucketful, they're going to drop low enough to merit the reduction.

Re: 12/16 Buster AMPS 146 - feeding question

Thank you for the responses! It seems to me that if you withhold food and kitty goes low, it's kind of a fake reduction. Also, as Sienne said, kitty will dictate when the reduction comes so consistency is probably a better way to go. I think I want to believe I'm more in control of this than the cat
