AMPS 212 Shaved off some HC, gave a little under a tablespoon this morning...OK, Mikey, do your part!

Re: 12/15 Mikey AMPS 212

+1 164 Not a huge dive, but added just a touch more gravy to 2nd breakfast to avoid a huger one. Fingers crossed

Re: 12/15 Mikey AMPS 212 +1 164

+2 82 Gave 3rd breakfast with a tiny bit more gravy. Great number, just need to slow it down.

Re: 12/15 Mikey AMPS 212 +1 164 +2 82

+3 88 Holding steady and will rise (hopefully very slowly!) from here. Nice to see those greens today, even if they are early. I do wish he'd have some flatter blue/green curves like he was having. Those looked so nice! I worry that we're seeing more yellow lately.

Re: 12/15 Mikey AMPS 212 +1 164 +2 82 +3 88

Very nice on slowing it down between +2 and +3. Now if you could just figure out how to keep him from skyrocketing back up!! Mikey Mikey....

I think this takes dosecrease off the table for now :-D

Re: 12/15 Mikey AMPS 212 +1 164 +2 82 +3 88

I'm happy to be back in the greens and blues. I think I probably didn't need to give the extra boost at +2...he was in the 80's and probably fine without it...I was just scared from past experiences. Eventually I'll get it right.

I tend to look at is as data. Every time you try a slight variation on your approach, you learn something. It helps you for the next time -- providing Mikey cooperates.

Re: 12/15 Mikey PMPS 279

PMPS 279. It seems that Mikey's PS numbers (and sometimes +10's/+11's) are higher than they were when he wasn't getting insulin for a few days last week. What could account for that? I am giving a little HC with PS meal to help counteract BG dives, but that shouldn't affect numbers 12 hours later, should it? Why else would his PS numbers be creeping up? He just finished a round of Clavamox for a UTI, so if anything, his numbers should be better now, right? I feel like we're going backwards!

Re: 12/15 Mikey PMPS 279 Highest yet...is this normal?

As far as the UTI, you don't know if it's completely gone. What you should do to confirm, is to get a cytocentesis (sterile urine draw) and a culture and sensitivity (C & S) after about 10 - 14 days after finishing the Clavamox to make sure the UTI is gone. This would especially be the case if you see Mikey's numbers climbing. If the vet didn't go through the above steps when the UTI was diagnosed, Mikey may not have been on an appropriate antibiotic. If the vet did go through these steps, it may be that just like with people, a second round of ABs are needed.

The numbers look like a pretty typical pattern for Mikey.

Re: 12/15 Mikey PMPS 279 Highest yet...is this normal?

+1 250 Looks like last night, except we had an excuse for the icky numbers as I lost a drop by accident. I'm pretty sure he got it tonight. Darn. I feel like we're not going in the right direction.

I will have his UTI rechecked in a couple of weeks. Jesse James has had them in the past that took 30 days of Clav to get rid of, but Mikey hasn't had them before that I know of.

Re: 12/15 Mikey PMPS 279 +1 250 Highest yet...is this normal

Hi Amy,
Also keep in mind that in FD things "happen" sometimes with no rhyme nor reason. FD is unpredictable. There are always lots of variables to juggle (food, insulin, medicines, weight, exercise, time of day, weather, etc.). Lisa (Do Lou) gave me some words to live by and I repeat them here: "The biggest variable in FD is FD itself". It helps not to try to compare too closely this week to last week, or even today to yesterday. The variables change. The trends are important, the individual numbers less so. As much as we would prefer otherwise, the path to good regulation or OTJ rarely proceeds in a straight line!!!

You are doing a great job with Mikey. I hope that you are finding time to get out and do what you like to do, too.

Have a fine evening,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 12/15 Mikey PMPS 279 +1 250 Highest yet...is this normal

+3 218 Should be nadir around +4 ish. Yuck. One minute he's in the greens and blues and the next it's nothing but yellow and I'm wondering if he needs an increase...yuck!

You know how everyone borrows Marje's patience pants? I think it's your turn to put them on!

Just a word.... For some cats, a flat yellow cycle is a signal for a busy cycle that's coming up.

Thanks, good to know. With Mikey, it's a 50/50 proposition anyway. He's had a few flat yellows in the last couple of days when he was having blues and greens. I guess I'm just frustrated because everyone was so encouraging about maybe being OTJ soon and now it looks like we;re going the other way.

It hasn't been even a month yet and there's a UTI in the mix. Let Mikey lead the dance. There's very little that you can do other than to follow his lead. There is a great deal that this experience teaches you -- patience, you don't have control, and most of all that you will have an even more special relationship with Mikey. When/if Mikey is ready to be done with insulin, he'll be done.
