Morning,
Blue is still pretty low this morning. He got a drop of insulin.
He seems back to normal for Bluebird. That first day after chemo was
not so great, but he seems okay. I take him in to the Animal Medical Ctr.
on Thursday for CBC.
Hope all is well in everyone's world this morning.

Thank you both. There is a kitty of a friend on FB that was diagnosed the same day as Blue and he's already gone so I feel blessed. Still hoping and praying for remission but the fact he feels good is such a blessing.

Now that said, his BG is down to 98 +1 and I'm giving him some MC food. I'll test again +2 to make sure he's not dropping too low.
 
This is two times under 50. We might need to try an OTJ TRIAL. I was hoping you would be testing every 30 after a lower +1.
 
When he started to drop early and started to have lower numbers is when I suggested it. I’m not sure what to do now but I guess take it cycle to cycle. He might just go OTJ and stay unde 150. If he goes OTJ I wonder if your oncologist would add prednisolone as it helps with lymphoma. I would ask. It might require a small amount of insulin but I would like to know if it would help treat the lymphoma since he’s on the single chemo drug. It’s used even with the aggressive form but I don’t know if recommended for a diabetic with lymphoma. I know cats with IBD on our forum as well as some with pancreatitis get prednisolone. Just my two cents fwiw.
 
Patty, when you get a moment, could you try the following:

1. Grab a used syringe and make sure the plunger is pushed right the way down inside the barrel.

2. Insert the needle into some water.

3. Squeeze down the plunger as far as you can.

4. Release the plunger and withdraw the needle from the water. (This should 'sip up' a tiny, tiny amount of fluid.)

5. While looking carefully at the needle, squeeze down the plunger as hard as you can again and look to see whether a very tiny droplet of water appears at the tip.

Assuming you do get the tiny droplet of water at the tip of the needle, please can you let us know roughly how the size of this droplet compares to the drop dose you've been giving.

I was just wondering if the drop would go back in the needle of the syringe.
If it appears on the end it will go back inside and is that the drop I'm supposed to give?
If so, then yes my drop is larger.
 
The drop you are giving at the moment is correct so don't change what you're doing right now.

I asked you to do the above little trial to see whether it might be possible to give an even smaller droplet of Lantus should the need arise.

FYI, I used the microdroplet dose for Saoirse. After squeezing on the plunger to administer the dose I would withdraw the syringe before releasing the plunger so that the microdroplet would not be sipped back up into the needle, if you get my drift.

I test each syringe as I go. I draw it up and look where it is around the bottom line and then I drop it on the
cutting board. If it doesn't drop I remeasure. The drop is larger by maybe double I think? It's really hard to measure and differentiate between drops. :(

I could definitely do the smaller drop.
 
A while back, I posted some tips on measuring drop doses for Sally. Reposting them here in case you might find some of the ideas helpful:

When trying the drop counting, I smeared a small sheet of regular printer paper with Vaseline and wiped off the excess to create a moisture barrier. Then I would practice getting the drops the same size using water in the syringe. The oil barrier helps the droplets to bead up and it's easier to compare sizes that way. Also, twisting the plunger like you'd do with a corkscrew makes it easier to s-q-u-e-e-z-e out little droplets. The Vaseline-smeared paper can also be wiped off and used again. Adding a little food colourant to the water in the syringe might help you judge drop size better too.​

Glad ye're OK. Be sure to start testing no later than +1, especially after today's AM nadir and also because this is a consecutive dose.

For safety I'd suggest grabbing a +1.5, Patty, especially after his dip into acid house green earlier.

I agree. I think you need to start getting a +1 , 1.5, 2 and 2.5 now. He’s surprised us too many times.
