Btw, if he's doing well on the 25mg gabapentin, any time you get a buprenorphine mishap, it may be prudent to give him an extra 25mg gabapentin. Generally don't want to risk double-dosing buprenorphine, but the extra gabapentin might help a little with pain relief in case most of the buprenorphine got on your hand/face/wherever instead (been there too....!).

Thanks THH. How long do you think I will need to keep him on each medicine? Yes I think he has learned to position his mouth so the stuff bounces off of it LOL.

Hey can I fill the syringe with gabapentin and leave it out for 6 hours? Is there a problem with it being a little warm? If I don't get it out, I'm afraid I'll forget at +6. Like I did last night. There is something about being awakened from a sound sleep that makes me forget things....

Thanks THH, sounds like sage advice!

I don't know about bupe. But I've seen this happen with Bandit. She looks like she is clearing a bounce only to go higher and then breaks the bounce.
Its good you increased!

Guess you can call it a night!

I've mainly done gabapentin pills, but I'd assume leaving it out of the fridge for 6 hours should be fine as long as it's not like 100 degrees in your house.

I'm really not sure how long he'll need these. Pancreatitis can take a long time to get under control. The only thing you haven't done yet is fluid therapy, which may be worth a try if you've done it before and he tolerates it well... and you have your vet's okay. My cat Cinnamon didn't break her pancreatitis flare until we added in fluid therapy; don't know why because she wasn't really dehydrated, but it seemed to help a lot. Some cats need steroids to get chronic pancreatitis under control too, usually oral prednisolone, but that's a question for your vet and not a great option for Squeaky given his current numbers (prednisolone will increase bg).

Unless we're missing something with him... has he had a urinalysis or labs done recently? Chronic kidney disease could also cause nausea and loss of appetite.

Hi THH, Hmmm, fluid therapy. I do have some fluids here. How long/often/dose etc did you administer the fluids?

We just got Squeaky off prednisilone.....

Thanks a bunch. I appreciate how much info and options you provide for us!

Warm wishes, Jan and Squeaky

When did he get off the prednisolone? Sometimes cats with chronic pancreatitis need to stay on it longterm.

For fluid therapy, it's different for every cat... For Cinnamon--whose only diagnosis is IBD/pancreatitis (plus a chronic anal gland issue...)--she got 100-150mL fluid therapy for 3 days in a row and that turned things around for her; which was great, because she's skittish and hated the fluids and all the meds! She's still on cerenia longterm, but no more buprenorphine and fluids. Snowcrash--who was diabetic, chronic pancreatitis, FLUTD, adrenal cancer, hypertension... a medical trainwreck his last year really--needed 100-150mL fluids daily for his last few months.

You do need to be careful with the timing of fluid therapy and insulin; ideally, it should be at least 2 hours apart.

THH, thanks for the info. He's getting so many meds and pricks and pokes I am not sure now is the time. 3 days isn't much though. I will keep this in mind as a possible option. Wow I appreciate all your input. I love having different options of things that might help or we could try.

Squeaky is drinking and peeing a LOT, especially when his numbers are high. But hmmm, maybe something to flush him out a bit. Clear some of the chemicals from his system, etc. I will hold this in mind. Thanks again.
