Good morning and happy Friday!

We had a terrific travel day yesterday! Pees in the box in the driveway, and he was in the front seat with me the whole trip. He sat in zoned meatloaf position for a good part, but finally settled down into perhaps an actual snooze at the end. His respiration rate has been lower towards the end of the last two trips, too. And he actually preened (well, licked himself twice. Maybe it was just an itch. Who knows.) Today is work-from-home. DH tested and shot this morning when I was at the gym. I just tested him ... 37 :shock: Quite honestly, I should have tested him sooner. I expected him to go green in the night and he didn't, so I thought he might be on his way back up again. SILLY BEAN! All I can say is THANK YOU that it's 10:45 AM and not 10:45 PM!

[Edit - he didn't get breakfast #2 at +1. I fed it to the wrong cat. Which very likely allowed this plunge. ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile]

Leo :shock: :mrgreen: I guess he wants you home today, Lisa! It's great the trips are getting much better for Leo. You've done a great job trying to make him feel comfy and secure.

Hi Ann, yeah, he wants the back door open so he can look out on the birds and squirrels, I'm just the door opener-and-closer-person! Sheesh - I don't think he would have dipped under 40 if he'd gotten his +1 breakfast. Dopey bean. His cycles on this dose have been peaks and dive bombs.

Hi Barb and Michelle - I know he's happy to be home and in charge :-) Our trip went well and he recovered BGs pretty quickly. Unfortunately, I have to leave for a Dr's appt in an hour ... hoping I can drag his butt up - he's not so much interested in food right now. Grrrrrr :evil:

That is the biggest plunge I think I've seen. Kowabunga!

I haven't watched hard enough but it seems Leo has these most often after the stress of traveling is over and he's back "home". Maybe it's just when I notice them.
Sure is nice to hear that Leo is adjusting to his jetset life. :-D

Rhiannon - wow. Sigh. The biggest YOU'VE seen? With all your experience? Wow. I'd give Leo a gold medal or something, but I don't want to encourage him. ohmygod_smile

I agree that this has happened the last few times ... he recovers quickly, or it is coinciding with him coming off a bounce that the travel stress is covering up. He's been very bouncy on this dose. I have to remember this new Travel Trend.

Good to see you when you visit from the Falls!

He's just not that interested in food. He ditched the gravies after a couple hours. He likes the 3% Chicken feast with it's extra boost, but couldn't surf him on it. Finally got some 11% in him. Don't want to Karo him at all. I suppose he's going to blast through the roof tonight. That would make tonight a good night for wine and cheese (actually eggnog and whiskey) but I had to cancel my doctor's appt this afternoon and reschedule at 8AM tomorrow. UGH!

Up Leo UP!! No need to dredge the depths, your bean (aka door slave) has decided to stay home today. And while you are at it - EAT!! But good boy on the travel, it seems like he is gradually either getting used to it or resigned to it.

Lisa, strange that he's not so hungry at these numbers. Last night when Neko hit 35 she wasn't demanding food, but boy did she pay attention when I opened the gravy can. And nice that he is doing this during the day. cat_pet_icon

Hi Wendy - I was thinking of Neko when Leo did his thing! Until the last couple dips below 50, I could count on him to eat whatever I put in front of him. Now, he's more particular. He likes the gravy in the beginning, but gets tired of that quickly and I have trouble getting the 15% in him - the shredded stuff. He'll lick the gravy and not eat the meat, then abandon it all together. Sigh. Consistency? Like that's a wish for winning the lottery??? Boy Neko, a girl sure knows how to toss a little drama, right? ;-)

Hi Kathie - yeah, I'll tell him Zeus said to get his butt in gear. Funny thing is, I left a couple dishes of various gravies out, and then Molly came by and ate them all! Way to go, girl! Leo, you snooze, you lose! Good to see that Zeus didn't drop on you but .... OUCH on the bounce!!!

WOW! Impressive drop there Leo, but sorry, I think Mannie still holds the championship. You weren't around for the LL Olympic Diving Trials a couple of years ago! :lol: :lol: :lol: Quite the competition among a number of kitters.

Lisa, I know it seems like giving Karo or honey should be a last resort and i felt that way for my first year too. I've rethought it though. What we want at times like these are fast results, karo or honey will give that, BUT they also won't stick around for a long time. From trial and error i've found that a drop of honey (lower glycemic index than karo) on a little LC food will boost Tess up about 20 points, but wear off in about 2 hours. This allows me to plan out the curve and give a little more time in between food so she doesn't get too full. If the low is early I know she will need more in 2 hours, if close to nadir once should do it.

The other thing I like is that when it is out of her system it is out. HC can continue to raise BG into the next day, it's just a step down from dry in how long it takes to clear the system. Something to think about.

Hi Ann - no, I wasn't here, but I've heard such trials existed!

I have mixed emotions about Karo. I used it a lot in the beginning when I was newer and more easily freaked out. Then I was cautioned to learn how to steer with food. So I'm decent at that, WHEN LEO DECIDES TO EAT. I will still use a drop or two, but today I didn't. I'm not sure why - I thought he was ready to blast out of the water to the blacks at any time, so I didn't go there, plus he doesn't like the taste (so I will get some honey and maybe he will like that better). With Leo, 1 drop of Karo hits in 10 minutes and lasts about 40. Funny - you and I both have rules of thumbs worked out for our kittehs! :-D I like the idea of a lower (but still high) glycemic index - something with a 2 hour window would be nice. I didn't think about HC sticking around longer into the next day ... I just thought that the bounce was the liver dump. Something to think about.

I'm glad your trip went well yesterday. It sounds like Leo is getting to be a good traveler. Nice greens today. :mrgreen: I hope Leo doesn't bounce too high.
