Hi all, been awhile - lots of life things going on...
For those who don't know Spock (and I see a lot of new people here), he is a DCIN rescue that I adopted on Aug. 28th. He was an owner surrender and had not been being treated for his diabetes. Turns out he came with other health issues too. He had very rotten teeth and has had (and fully recovered from) having 12 teeth extracted. He also has a 6/6 heart murmur. There have been no symptoms from that. It took over a month, but I've been able to get his weight back up (he was pretty thin!) He freaks out on the baby scale so I don't know his exact weight, but he was 11 lbs. when he had his dental and needed to gain at least a pound). He was very hard to test in the beginning and I think a combination of the dental and the fact that he is more comfortable have allowed me to get more mid-cycle checks.
He was started on 1 unit of Lantus. I probably wasted some valuable time on the dose because of my inability to test him, but I have now been able to get him down to .10 unit. He still goes really low even on that dose and has been bouncing. I tried 2 cycles without insulin to see if maybe he was ready, but his numbers went back up. So...I would greatly appreciate some experienced eyes to take a look at his spreadsheet and let me know what you think.
On another topic, since Spock seemed to be so terribly unhappy at my home, we had a session with Dawn Allen, the animal communicator. You see, he is in his own room and is pretty comfortable with that. But whenever I he knew other cats (mainly Jesse) were on the other side of the big gap at the bottom of the door, he would attack. It didn't help that I let them go nose to nose through a crack in the door. Well, he told Dawn that he has no desire or intention of integrating with my cats and that he would much prefer to be an only cat. DCIN has since had him put back on the adoption list.
