Hi Tim, I think many people do give a treat. Maybe a low carb bit of food? Or a lick of baby food? Something they like that won’t bump the BG up?
    Let’s see what others say.

Have a safe surf today. Have a gentle slide down Pookey :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Freeze dried meat treats are also an option.

In active cycles, you want to give a tsp of food after a test to flatten the curve/keep them surfing green.

Thanks Bhooma! We haven’t been doing anything, so maybe the tsp would be nice for him.

You want to avoid feeding after the nadir, if possible. Feeding after the nadir can reduce duration and cause numbers to go up faster. There are some cats that don't do well with a long gap between meals (stomach acid, hangry etc). In such cases you want to feed the lowest carb food after the nadir (even zero carbs, if possible).

We have the auto feeder going for during the cycles. For some reason (maybe to refrigerate) it makes me close it for 30 minutes before the next feed. He usually eats as soon as it becomes available…

What are those feeding times in relation to shot times? When Maverick was on Lantus, I’d give either a LC freeze dried treat or a small snack, usually a couple of teaspoons of his usual food when he was at +2 and +4 to have the carbs early in the cycle and before nadir. Just also depends on the cycle, and how carb sensitive you are finding Pookey to be.

Pookey is looking good, hoping he’s got some swim time plans today!

Hey Christie, appreciate you sharing! The feed times above are +2, +4, and +6. We’ve got some freeze dried here, the brand is Whole Hearted. I’ve been hesitant because I can’t find carb info on them…

I give Bella a small amount of her regular food or a piece of boiled chicken or a piece of grated cheese after I test her. My +2, +3 and +4 tests are before regular small meals (I don't always test all 3, most days just +3).
Look at all those blues today!
