Three years ago today, I got Neko's diabetes diagnosis. I had taken her in the day before for her annual wellness exam, and asked to get blood work done because something was off. She was crazy for food, eating anything, drinking more water than usual, and starting peeing in the bathtub (which at least was easy to clean). I managed to convince the vet staff to give me the b/w results before the vet called, and started researching online right away. If almost immediately found FDMB, so knew to question when the vet said we would start on Caninsulin. But I didn't know how to get any other type of insulin at the time. One week after the FD diagnosis, civie Theo had his first cystitis episode and our house water main started leaking which meant a jackhammer in the basement. What a December! @-) Two months later a locum vet got us on Lantus and I joined FDMB. 7 months after FD diagnosis, I got the positive IAA and acro test results.
From what I've read, and the symptoms I saw, I suspect Neko had acromegaly starting the summer before hand so she's had it at least 3.5 years. But it's a slow growing tumour. Neko's come a long way in that time. SRT definitely helped. She's a happier cat (and the bean is more relaxed too). Her BG is decent, and there's a lot less stress in the house (her and me). The most visible symptom of the acromegaly is the arthropathy (arthritis). She has some soft tissue growth in the mouth, and I've got a follow on appointment next week to follow up her proteinuria (which is common in acros), as well as blood pressure. Next year I'll get another echocardiogram to see if there are any changes there. This morning she did a pre FD behaviour, lick and nibble my calf as I dry from the shower.
Today I'm letting Neko have an annifursary party without me supervising. All kitties are invited to the solarium. There's fresh catnip growing there. I'm off today doing some fabric theraphy while DH is in charge.
Happy Caturday everyone.
