Does anyone know why Fuzma is crouching in her litter box for a long time with nothing coming out? It seems like she wants to pee.

Sometimes cats crouch in the litter box when:

1. They feel unwell or insecure.
2. They want to pee but can't, or it hurts to pee (e.g. if they have a urethral blockage or a UTI).
3. They're constipated.

If they're trying to pass something then sometimes they dig at the litter in a somewhat agitated way or they 'pirouette' in or around the box. If it's a urinary issue then sometimes they'll try to find something that feels soft and try to pee on that.

If my cat was behaving that way I'd contact my vet to ask them to examine it ASAP and check urine/blood for any issues. In the meantime can you watch her to observe her behaviour further and see whether she passes anything. Can you move the box to where you can see her in it all the time, Roberta?

Thanks for the info. It looks like she was trying to pee. Chloe just tested at 83.

If she is having difficulty passing urine then that could potentially be a life-threatening emergency, and the kitty needs to be seen by a vet ASAP in case there might be a blockage in the urethra (would need to be cleared urgently, might need catheterisation).

My first cat had that issue when he was 17. He was having kidney decline. I would go to a vet and get their diagnosis, see if tests should be run asap.
Thing is, apparently only male cats get urinary blockages. Besides, she seems to be doing better now. She's running around. She still goes in the litter box. I'll just have to be brave and stick

I meant to say 'stick my hand under her butt'. Today, she didn't spend so much time in the litter box and it seems she pees a small amount. Golf ball size clumps. She was also active midday. I read on Chewy that the Tiny Tiger pate causes kidney problems, so I immediately stopped feeding her that. I ordered 9-Lives instead. I will see how she does tomorrow and Monday, I will make an appointment with the vet to get her tested for kidney function and UTI. I'm still feeding the Tiny Tiger to Chloe because she seems to do well on it and I have a full box + to use up.

That's actually not true. It's uncommon for female cats to get urinary blockages because their urinary passage isn't as narrow, so crystals and such need to be a lot bigger--but it can happen.

Any time a cat is having unusual issues with the litter box is worth a vet visit, in my opinion.

Fuzma seems normal now. I saw her peeing this morning without straining. I'm still going to make a vet appointment since she hasn't had an annual exam for quite awhile. She still has a lot of mats, but I'm afraid to cut them off since I gouged her about a month ago. I took her to a different vet then who didn't even groom her at all, gave her Biomax, which says it's for dogs only (and was expensive) and told me she needed dental work (also expensive). I asked her what happens if she doesn't get dental work and she said the tooth is simply reabsorbed into the gums. This reabsorbtion thing puzzles me. I read that kittens in their mothers' wombs can also be reabsorbed. I suspect that may have happened with Chloe when she was pregnant.

I canceled the vet appt on Fri. I know she's okay now because I saw her in the litter box making a strong pee just past the litter box. I changed her back to 9-Lives and have been adding a few drops of Azmira Kidni Flow. It's probably expired but I want to use it up. The past few evenings, she's been playing with her little ball. She makes weird yowls when she carries it in her mouth and then will drop it and bat it around on the kitchen floor. The first time I heard her, I ran in thinking she was in pain. It looks like she's having fun. When I try to participate, she just gives me a blank stare.
