12/12 - Trixie - Update and Vet visit

First post on the Honeymooners forum 😁

Trixie had a check up and labs done yesterday (labs are on her spreadsheet for anyone who wants a peek) Doctor was so impressed and thrilled that she was off insulin and acknowledged the hard work that goes in to getting a kitty into remission.

All and all a good visit, her weight is down to 6.1kgs from 7kgs in August so the doctor wants me to increase her calories a bit since I am feeding on the lower end of her needs.

Her BUN came down, but her creatinine came up a bit and her USG is down as well. 🙁 They are sending her urine out to run a protein/creatinine ratio since she had protein in her urine. Won’t get those results until next week.

Here she was being a good girl, waiting for the doctor. 💕

Hi Kat! Nice to see you and Miss Trixie. If I recall, I think you mentioned the results from June were from Idexx and the same would apply for December? The creatinine is stable, but slight increase, ordinarily based on IRIS staging of CKD, that indicates some early stage, although numbers can go up and down. I’d watch for continued trends like you and your vet are doing. Trixie’s ability to concentrate urine still seems to be under the typical range for hydrated cats, and can be lower if she’s been drinking a lot of water. As you know, the USG can be an early indicator of CKD, but the urine concentration can vary during the day, so ideally you want to see the USG with the first pee of the morning where the urine is the most concentrated, since over the course of the day it gets more dilute. It’s probably worth getting a UPC ratio just for a baseline, although my vet never ran it when Mav was +1, and I kind of wish I had run it. Hope my thoughts help a little, but I know you and your vet are on top of things.

I also wish I had caught Trixie’s OTJ day, but since I didn’t, remember these?! Whew, those are some tight patience pants!

Thank you so much for your thoughts. Yes, those results are from Idexx as well. I heard back from the vet and her UPC value was normal 🙂 She recommended that test as well since she lost weight and wanted to be sure it was not the cause of muscle wasting. As you said, now we have a baseline which is a good thing. I will bring her back in 6 months so we can stay on top of those kidney values.

Haha, those tight patience pants 🤣. I had passed those on to @Seth&Bell when miss Bell was in a long bounce.

Big hugs to you and your fur babies. Hope all is well 💕

I saw the notes on your ss when I checked it the other day, and I wondered what was going on, so I'm glad to see this post. Looking forward to hearing the update from the labs.
