Okay, my BFF and I were discussing our cats' respective reactions to our Christmas Trees when she sent me this, courtesy of the laugh-until-you-cry-or-snort-a-beverage-through-your-nose-(or both) magician that is the Bloggess.

Willie leaves the tree alone. Herbie is fascinated, but doesn't really climb, she only likes to play with the (non-breakable) ornaments at the bottom of the tree. Every day, I come home to the bottom half of the tree looking decidedly sparse. So I track down all the ornaments... some, like the hand-decorated fabric flowers are right under the tree, while the walnut-sized jingle bells on fabric ties are all over the house. What is puzzling me is that under the tree, right on the tree skirt, is always a pile of cat toys. I can't decide if...

1. Miss Herbie feels guilty about her latest tour of destruction and has placed the toys there as a peace offering.
2. Willie has put them under the tree as a hint that Herbie really needs her own cat toys and perhaps, since things generally appear under the tree, some toys for Herbie should find their way there. Or,
3. Willie is confused by the fact that there are not, in fact, ANY presents under the tree as of yet, and therefore, there are no bags or packages to sniff, bows to bat or ribbons to play with, and he is very concerned that his mamabean has forgotten the Christmas protocol and he is therefore offering a helpful reminder.

Your thoughts on this mystery, and most importantly, your kitty Christmas Tree (or Hanukah Bush) stories, would be greatly appreciated. :-D :-D :-D :-D

I used to have to redo the bottom of the tree everyday, when I came home from work.
I never minded though, much, it was part of being a cat mom.
It just always amazed me how they got the string of christmas lights across the room, the way they did.
My cats love to sit under the tree and that's basically the main reason I don't take it down until mid/late january.

Is that J.D. hanging out under the tree?? Lookin' cool for Yule!

No tree or decorations here :? Leroy would destroy it all a la Simon's Cat @-)... if not eat everything he can get his teeth on  My family has never been into celebrating Christmas. We put up the fake tree a few times when Squishy was still here. Squishy pretty much ignored the tree and the presents under it.

We have no presents under the tree since Santa has not come by yet ;-)

Tom sits under it this year, we got a great picture of him last week actually. Years ago, he would have been somewhere up the tree...
Sunrise takes the tree skirt and redecorates the room. Lets try it in the hall, under the couch, by the window etc...The other night, i found her back legs hanging down the bottom branches of the tree, trying to reach higher  didn't have time to get the camera, she bolted.

We have a good giggle at least once a week with her.

Minnie, well, she has no clue.

Teddy loved to sit under the tree. Here he is last Christmas:

That's a great picture of Teddy. I'll post Tom's later this week. Right now, he is sleeping on my chest, nose in my neck, in my bed.

aw, love love love the pic of teddy by the tree, linda! what a sweetie! he even has an angelic look - not at all like he's planning to pull any tree parts down and bat them around!

the blog was hysterical - and i always love Simon's cat. especially when the cat always wants food - punkin's soul-sister! ;-)

one time my sis-in-law, who lives in alaska, sent us a package and we put the wrapped gifts under the tree. turned out one of those packages had salmon in it - not that we got any, because the kitter & dog found it first. :-D they thought that was the best Christmas they'd ever had!

we don't have ours up yet - it's on the porch in its stand. maybe tonight or tomorrow we'll bring it in.

I gave up on having a tree once we adopted the herd (Zen, Noah, Petey, and Frankie all came to us at the same time!)...they are WAY too crazy to be trusted with a tree! And, Petey chews on electrical cords...we have hardly any lamps plugged in, and those that are have heavy-duty protectors on them. I can only imagine the fun he'd have with string lights!

My very first cat, Mr Kitty, knocked over my very first tree - that was a treat! My now-husband, then-boyfriend, attempted to clean up for me - and sucked the lights up in the vacuum cleaner. Good times all around!! And, Mr K liked to chew on the lights. One night, I looked over and saw him chewing. I yelled "No!!" just as all the lights went out! Fortunately, I got the bulb out of his mouth before he bit into it or swallowed it.

When we just had Mario and Mr K, we attempted trees, but always with the same results. One time, and only one time, we tried to go to bed without confining them. They were all cozy and sleep when we turned in. Within 30 seconds of lights out, we heard the first ball crash. After that, I decided it just wasn't worth it. I loved having a tree and miss it, but worrying about the cats, or having to confine them...well, we have enough stress here as it is  ! So...our kitties are our symbolic Christmas tree!!

I made the mistake of clicking this link while I was giving a final exam and couldn't laugh! I just got a glimpse of Ferris Mewler in the tree and had to laugh silently. Ouch that hurt. When I got home I read the whole thing and laughed until I cried. Still laughing.   We don't have a tree in the house, just a few lights outside that are in the process of getting buried in snow.

I am extremely thankful that none of mine would remotely consider ever going into our 7.5 footer. I have plastic ornaments, and no tree skirt (either someone will play under it, or someone will volcano ontop of it, or both). Another thing I love about my cats is that they don't ever touch the cords, or chew them (thank goodness). Every once in a while, someone will run by and perhaps knock an ornament on the way with her paw (Aurora), but otherwise, they remain where I set them. I have good cats. For the most part. :-D

Our girls love laying under the tree .. poor mocha has a rump a little to high and the tree branches rub on fanny  she turns around and rolls over and kicks and chews at the branches .. twix watches in amazement .. but usually within a half hour or so they have both settled in nicely .. they have however been known to pull their stockings down in the wee hours of the morning and find their cat nip toys all on their own!
