This may explain why his numbers are not where they should be. Vet showed me that in the rear of his mouth, he has an infection in his gums. We are getting his teeth cleaned next month (almost 400 bucks due to the general anesthesia and with Christmas, we have to wait unfortunately) on Jan 20th. Vet said the wait will be fine.
He was also VERY impressed with all of the work we did with Simon, especially the meticulous records/spread-sheet and the custom dosing and his nice numbers. He raved about it actually. He said "I have NEVER had anyone go to this length with a diabetic cat and I want you to keep up the amazing job"
I then told him I owe it all to FDMB and to all of YOU (especially you Sue!) and that he should definitely send over anyone who has a cat diagnosed with diabetes to the board and that the help and support is amazing. He said "If it helped Simon to get to this point in his numbers, it must be an amazing group of people" and he was so very pleased. I know he is a convert to home testing now for sure when he saw what we did with Simon.
I calibrated my meter with the alpha trak and it was 33 points higher (137 v 170) than my meter and the numbers were not bad considering he was at the vet (always a stressful time) plus he has the gum infection.
