Hey LL! Moonie hasnt been so good last few days..I had written she hadnt pooped in several days, or if so very little..She had been dx'd with intestinal tumor in Nov.but it was small, and even by doing an aspiration, it came back inconclusive..Been giving her miralax twice a day, but not really working. Called reg vet & she prescribed lactalose, which she had last night & this morning..I am praying she is just constipated, as last poo was tiny & hard..Her tummy is also hard, and last night she ate chicken I cooked but almost no cat food overnight..This am ate a little ff t&g..She will always still eat temptations, but she cant live on those..

Her numbers have been mid blue & quite consistant, but now with the lactulose & it's sugary content, they will surely go up...I am beside myself with worry, and feel so badly for her. Please say Prayers for my sweet girl as I am just about at my wits end after all that has happened to us..
Losing my home & all I own was bad enough, I couldnt bear at this point, for anything to happen to Moonie..
She will hwoever, eat chicken, chopped turkey, & anything I cook for her, but she needs the nutrients of the cat food..If you get a moment today, please say a little prayer for her..You all have helped us so very much..
WE Love you--Hugs & Love from us...

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

Roni, you, Brad and Moonie are always in my prayers. I'm hoping she is just constipated and that will come to an end soon. You guys have all been through so much.

Sending calming, healing, and 'pooping' vines!

Jo

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

(((Roni and Moonie))) I'm so glad you posted, as I was about to ask Ella if she'd heard from you. I guess you know Maggie is on Lactulose every day (2x/day), and hope this helps her poop. It may raise her bg some, but not as much I thought! I have something from JoJo that explains it; when I locate, I'll post it to your condo. It was when we had a discussion on it. Sending tons of healing vines and prayers for Moonie and strength and comfort vines to you.

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

Roni, here is the info from JoJo. Carolyn & Lattee had posted it in my earlier condo when Mags first started on the Lactulose. Hope this helps.

Here, I found JoJo's explanation regarding Lactulose on the other board. I never understood why, so now I know! :

the "sugar" in lactulose does not enter the cat's blood stream changing BG. laxatone however is a different story. not a product that you want to give a diabetic cat.
miralax is an acceptable substitute. usual dosing is to start at 1/8 teaspoon and more up as needed.
don't forget to add extra water to food, osmotic laxatives can be dehydrating.

and another explanation:

Lactulose is a disaccharide, two separate sugars, combination of the simple sugars galactose and fructose.

Lactulose is not absorbed from the intestinal tract into the blood. Instead, it passes unchanged to the large intestine (the colon).

In the colon it is broken down into acids, the acids draw water into the colon, softening the stool and increasing the volume.

This is why it's always mentioned to increase your cats water intake because the absorption into the colon takes water away from other organs

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

((((Roni & Moonie))))

We are sending lots and lots of prayers for Moonie today (and every day), and lots and lots of positive thoughts, too. I hope that the lactulose will do it's job and that you will see good results in the litterbox today. Perhaps try plain canned pumpkin? (not pumpkin-pie filling; just plain pumpkin). It is high in fiber and is often recommended here.

Please keep us posted and try not to worry.

Thinking of you and sending lots of love and BIG HUGS,

Ella & Rusty

Hi beautiful Moonie! I'm going out to pick a beautiful bouquet of healing vines from my greenhouse. I hope you will like it. I want you to feel much better by this evening. Let's both sing some of our songs today.
Love,
Rusty

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

Oh Roni. Prayers and healing vines by the tons being sent your way for you and for sweet Moonie. ((((Roni)))) I have been thinking about all of you the last few days and watching for a condo.

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

Morning Roni - Hugs to all there. I hope the lactulose will help Moonie. Paws crossed for her. Interesting comments from Ann on how that stuff works. Sounds like it will be an OK additive. I sure has helped Maggie. Enjoy your day today - I hope it is a good one.

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

Prayers going out for Moonie.

Have you told your vet that her tummy is hard? Sometimes this means a blockage which only the vet can fix.
Hoping things are moving along smoothly for Moonie soon.

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

If she is eating the cooked stuff maybe you can add the additional nutrients somehow instead of feeding cat food if she wont take that. I know some people make their own food so there must be a way to add it.. I found this link which may help. http://www.catinfo.org/?link=makingcatfood which as a list of nutrients way down the page.

Have you tried grinding the temptations and sprinkling it on top of regular cat food to get her to eat more?

Sending healing and pooping vines!((hugs to both of you!))

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

You are always in our thoughts and prayers, but I am sending many extras your way today. Please poo, Moonie...I promise you, all of LL will celebrate with great love and joy!!!

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

(((Roni and Brad and Moonie))) Sending lots of prayers and healing vines to you all - it is just not fair after all you are going through for poor Moonie to not feel well. At least the test was inconclusive so let's think the best on that one. I was going to suggest what Wendy said. I don't do this, but several people here do. Maybe that will help Moonie because she eats what you cook for her. Many many hugs to you all :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

Detective Poo here, sending special poo vines to Moonie. Go Moonie! And sending big hugs to you and Brad. We are thinking of you every day.

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

Will Moonie eat anything with oil on it? (Just sayin...cuz Raja will not! But Shadow LOVES his Omega 3 capsule!!!! He loves tuna oil too in an emergency with miralax in it...) Didn't you used to give her olive oil in her food? Hmmm...just wondering if the oil would help ease things along. Maybe a tiny bit from the cooked chicken? Wondering if she has a hairball.....the oils will help with that too if that's the case.
It is very frustrating when they have not pooped.....
Take lots of deep breaths Roni....and give Moonie a million kisses from us, okay?
Hope the poop gods will smile on Moonie soon....sending hugs to you all.... :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

Keeping you guys in my prayers as usual, and will send extra good poo thoughts moonies way!

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

Sending a shitload of prayers to Ms. Moonie (did I just say that, lol)

Mr. Spot has a terrible time with constipation too. I have increased his Miralax and water in his food and he seems to be going pretty good...so in, in fact, that he is now doing the runny poo and is now having a probiotic added to his meals. But at least he is pooping!

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

Re what Wendy said: You can buy pre-made supplements to mix into chopped or ground meat to make it nutritionally complete from these suppliers and maybe others:

https://www.felinespride.com/

http://tcfeline.com/

http://www.wildkittycatfood.com/index.htm

Look for the mixes or kits. They all sell both supplements for boneless meat and supplements for ground meat including bones (bone-in). It's important to get the right one. I used one for a time (I forget which one) and my cats liked it.

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

sending Moonie lots of prayers and healing vines and a blizzard of snowflakes and I know you may not want to consider dry food but you might think about it as well just to get her to eat something lower in carbs like wellness or evo just a thought plus this company makes a great additive for people who make their own food

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

So sorry Miss Moonie is not feeling well. Sending tons of vines and prayers that this is just some constipation. (Although, having just suffered thru that myself, I wouldn't normally wish that on anyone! ;-) )

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

So sorry to hear this after all you've been through. Prayers and good thoughts coming your way.

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

C'mon Miss Moonie - let's moooove it along shall we? Sending a garden of vines and good thoughts your way! :YMHUG:

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

Hi Roni,

I hope the Lactulose does the trick but if not, I'm wondering if you gave enough of the Miralax. I give a little more than a 1/4 tsp twice a day every day as part of Racci's regular med regime. When they get old, a lot of them have constipation problems because of arthritis, etc. It's hard for them to push it out so softening it helps. It may take a couple of days to get her bowels moving regularly again.

I would feed the human food with supplements if that is what she wants. It's probably better for her anyway. They change their minds constantly tho so don't buy too much of the supplements. Buy a small size mixture containing the bone.

I'm sending poop vines and feel good vines as well to you all. Keep us posted.

Hugs & loads of pets, purrs, and kisses for Moonie,
Melanie & Racci

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

Sending tons of healing vine for Moonie and I hope she starts to poo and feel better soon. How are you feeling?

Camille beat me to suggesting supplements. Most of those are for raw diets. I was going to use TC Feline, but too high in phosphorus and Tess wouldn't touch Wild Kitty. Here's a link that lists several others. I've seen The Missing Link in local stores. Platinum Performance is another good supplement.

You could buy the individual vitamins and minerals but it would be hard to get the amounts correct.

Re: 12/11 Moonie AMPS 223 needs prayers

I have used Lactulose with J.D. on occasion, and it worked well and did not seem to raise his BGs.

I am sending feel better and eat better vines to Moonie.

I So Love you all!! Thanks for all your love & Prayers-We need them..She has had 3 doses of lactulose so far.
She is still eating chicken, temptations, and HC Gravy(ff chicken with gravy) which I gave her tonite, just to get some nutrition into her. She does eat a little in the morning of lc ff chick. feast, but not after..
If she doesnt get any better in next day or so, my vet will be in on Thursday & we will take her over there at night...My heart hurts so for her, she looks miserable, yet every now & then she comes & gives me a head butt, or little snuggle...I so want her to be able to be here when we do go to our real home...

So keep up the prayers please, I am looking into the nutritional suggestions of everyone, hope the Poo patrol can help my sweet girl--Barb & Tuff are also rooting for us, and we are so thankful for all the help-
Hugs & Love from us!!

Hi again, Roni,
