Good Morning, Everyone,

After an all-blue day yesterday, with a steady climb from low blue to high blue, Rusty is starting the day in low yellow. This is a strange progression. We'll see how today evolves. He had a good night, good test and shot, and the morning routine is underway. But this morning he preferred his little bed by the radiator to a schmooze with his mamabean. It's snowing lightly outside. We are not expected to get much snow from this storm, but further west and south, near Lake Ontario, they are expecting 12 inches of "lake-effect" snow.

Today I am going to begin my Xmas-cookie baking by trying an historic recipe for shortbread that I heard about on National Public Radio. It sounds delicious and has only a few ingredients. http://www.npr.org/2013/12/06/249277869/a-tale-of-two-cookies-the-brass-sisters-holiday-shortbread No cimmamum, however!!

Wishing everyone a good day. We are thinking of Katie today and sending her our deepest sympathy on the passing of Mego. Healing vines to Ripley, Zener, Jupiter, and all kitties and beans who are not feeling well.

YUM...that cookie recipe sounds good, and so easy! Since I don't eat dairy, I wonder if my vegan butter will work....it usually does work well in other baking projects. I may have to try it!

I don't blame Rusty for hanging by the radiator, and neither does my crew....they're all camped out by various heating vents here.

Let's head back to the lagoon, Rusty! Have a great day, Ella!

Morning Ella ~O) ~O) ~O)

Sorry to have missed your condo yesterday. Sheshhh - fell asleep on the sofa, and never made it back on the Board.

It's good to read Rusty had a blue day yesterday, almost a green one. Maybe he just wanted some time off this morning. back down you go Rusty, the lagoon needs its meister.

Snowfall! YAY! It's nice when it is a light snowfall, so pretty, but it doesn't causes issues. We were due for some through the nght, but it never showed! YAY I think? I love snow, but not when I need to be places.

I like that cookie recipe. SO simple, and it has orange zest + in it. I too may need to try this out. Happy baking to you!

enjoy your day today. I hope all goes well.

Auntie Ella? You are making cookies WITHOUT cimmamum???? are you sure that is a good idea? we lubs cimmamum..... my bean say not everything has to have cimmamum in it, but I dunno.... ~~ Elsa, Lil BIT, kitteh barista

Re: 12/10 Rusty AMPS 203

Not a bad start for Rusty today. Let's bring it on down big guy. Glad the test and shot were good. Baking sounds like a great way to spend the day.

Our ice is still here and the kids are still out of school. They haven't gone since last Thursday. The main roads are fine but the neighborhoods are skating rinks. It should be above freezing and sunny today so that should do the trick until it freezes again tonight. It has been bitter here with a low last night of 10 and a 2 degree windchill.

I hope Rusty slides down today. I hope you don't get too much snow. We had a little bit this morning, but it's supposed to get in the 40s by Friday, so it will melt.

Re: 12/10 Rusty AMPS 203

Back down to the Lagoon, Rusty, Tess has taken another day off and there is no supervision !

I love shortbread! My recipe was on a postcard I bought on a bike trip to Scotland. It's even simpler:
  • 12oz, flour
    8oz. butter
    4oz. sugar

rub butter into flour/ sugar mixture, press into mould or buttered baking sheet and bake for 25 minutes at 375º.

The orange does sound good though!

Hi again,
Rusty is in the lagoon! (but it was a very small sample of blood, so it might not have been accurate). He was meowing at me, so I figured he wanted to be tested, and he did. Good boy. He had eaten all of his lunch and was hungry, so he got his hairball-gel treat, his f-d chicken testing treats, and some LC food a bit earlier than usual. Then he wanted another combing/brushing and just generally wanted to be loved. Rusty is a love bug.

The orange shortbread is cooling. I can't wait to try it. It smells heavenly. Interesting that shortbread has no eggs in it. I see there are none in Ann's recipe from the Scottish postcard, either. In any event, I think even with "rationing" I will have to make several more batches of this one!

Great job in the lagoon Rusty! And on letting your bean know it was time for more snacks and cuddles. cat_pet_icon

This condo has me so hungry now, as it often does. ;-) My mother's Scottish Shortbread recipe is the same as Ann's. The question is whether you use icing sugar, regular white sugar or brown sugar. I've seen all of those, and some with a mix. My current "Christmas" shortbread adds in some instant coffee and then you dip the cooked result in dark chocolate. But the orange variation does sound like I ought to give it a try.

Nice numbers for Rusty. Also, some nice recipes. My kids love to bake. Last year we didn't, but this year we definitely want too.

Hi again,
Rusty's PMPS looks promising. He enjoyed his snacks, combing/brushing, dinner, an enthusiastic trip to the litterbox, and now is chillaxin' in his basket.

The shortbread is delicious. I worried a bit because I made it in an 8x2 inch pan instead of a 9x2, and because we live at a higher altitude than Boston, but it turned out fine. I am, however, going to get a 9x2 inch pan for the next time--it will make the shortbread a bit thinner by spreading out the dough over a larger surface.

To visit condos now,

Ella & Rusty

p.s. I just saw Josie's condo. We send her all our support and love for her remaining days with her dear Ripley.

Yummmmm!!! Love all this shortbread talk, but it's making me drool! Great job getting back to your lagoon Rusty! And WAY smart to get your bean to check you! Might as well head back in tonight for a nice long surf

Hey Rusty! Did you see what your mamabean said about making more batches of them yummy cookies?? I will distract her, and you add the cimmamum K!
