12-10 Little Man vet visit tomorrow

Buprenophine or gabepentin should not. A steroid shot would definitely so I would not want that.
Ok...downside to the new vet is she typically likes to do exam and stuff without anyone in room. I also read a review that they like to treat and charge you before they discuss treatment. So when I go in I will tell them not to do anything until I hear the issue and treatment plan.

I wish I knew what was causing him to limp it has me really nervous

My civvie Olive was limping for a bit. She usually flies onto window sills and kitchen counters effortlessly like an Olympic athlete but sometimes she misses her targets. :arghh: I took her to the vet, they gave her a three day course of Onsior and she was fine after that. Onsior is an anti-inflammatory and hard on the kidneys, that's why the treatment is so short, so not recommended if there are any kidney issues.

Sending healing light and vetty vines. :bighug:

At last blood panel in October when he was dx with fd his kidneys were working great...but I'll be aware of that info thankyou!

It's possible it was jumping on bed and wrenched paw got stuck with claws etc... I have placed small boxes next to bed plus we have a small loveseat at end of bed so he doesn't have to jump from floor but he is stubborn old boy and always jumps up from floor

Good to know that his kidneys are still functioning well. My Olive who is small and skinny thinks she is invincible, whereas Ruby is a much bigger cat and less sure of herself when jumping so is much more cautious and gets into fewer scrapes. These cats.

Yes these cats! He still seems to think big as he is he can jump like he is still 2 years old LOL

Yes to be honest I took him to the vet thinking it was his kidneys only to find out its fd and thankful kidneys are working great

Darcy had Onsior and next thing I knew he had failing kidneys. Who knows? I have never forgotten it though. He didn’t get it for long. Kidneys were probably already failing and I didn’t know it yet.

:( I miss Darcy. You took such good care of him, but sadly it seems kidney troubles can strike fast and hard. I knew enough from all of the experience of caregivers here like you not to give Onsior unless I had recent labs that proved it would be ok. Olive's kidneys are still good after the Onsior.

I hope the vet visit will go well tomorrow. I do not like vets who operate that way. I have one sort of back up vet who just starts doing things to your cat …. I mean he will not tell you what he thinks is wrong or anything… he walks to the back hallway and starts preparing meds or injections and just starts giving them to my cats! I have to stop him. He is very old school. I usually tell him what I do and do not want done (since I already pretty much know what’s going on and why I made the appointment in the first place). I save this guy only for simple problems when I can’t get into my real, good vet. Since I still can’t get inside to my regular vet though (usually) I send in a note for my vet saying what I want them to check, what I have observed in my cat, and I will authorize only certain tests to be done - like a specific blood panel that I already know the price of. She’s really good about coming out to talk to me before doing anything else.
Recently when I had my Ginger at the emergency vet, I sent in a written note authorizing only very specific tests without further authorization. Especially since I had just had a bunch of tests at her regular vet. They did a whole bunch of stuff that I had not authorized and, to their credit, I was given a refund on the additional tests when I complained about it.

@Suzanne & Darcy I'm sorry to hear about the onsior rapidly progressing his kidney issues! Makes me scared to think now back in august my civvie had oral surgery to pull a couple bad teeth and they gave her onsior for after never knew!

Shes 14 now so I guess I will feel blessed she is ok from it all knowing now that it is so hard on kidneys...

I know Elise suggested gabapentin and buprenorphine as being much safer...I'd be lost without all of you and just blindly following vet advice...which means who knows what shape little man would be on by now!

Yes. Bupe is my “go to” drug for pain in cats!

Darcy also had Acromegaly and that in and of itself is hard on kidneys. We will never know. I also will not give my cats Metacam, but at this point my vet will not ever prescribe it for cats anyway. But other vets do.

I will say when I went for the initial visit which was more of an interview for her ;) they weren't allowing us in exam and I told them up front I wanted to be in room I'd keep my mask on entire time and give vet room do examine LM but I refused to not go with him. He is so skittish I need to be there to help keep him calm. They allowed me to do it so I will gove same request tomorrow and hopefully it will go over well

Hopefully Little Man will get over the limp quickly and without too many narcotics or painkillers. Cats can bounce back from things quickly after causing us unending worry for days. Big hugs to you, Rainbow!
