Good morning ~O)
My thumb is still hurting (like a knife stab, sometimes), now I think it might have been J.D.'s teeth while pilling him..two more doses, tonight and tomorrow morning..four more pillings (2 Pepcid and 2 ABs).
J.D. is still limping. I feel bad for him, because it's his right hind he usually favors, and now his left hind is causing him problems. He is walking around though, and putting weight on it. He is jumping up and down from the couch. I slept on the couch last night, because I didn't want him jumping up and down from the bed, which is a lot higher.
I just called the Farm Vet and they are only open today for 2 hours between 9:30am nd 11:30am, by appointment only, and they said they can fit me in between clients, so I'm off... I feel so sorry for him. He's limping, and his eye is tearing and his bg is high (I almost gave him R this morning) and he's due for his adequan this morning, and I don't know which leg to give it in...I don't want to hurt him.

I'll report back, when we get home.

Re: 12/10 J.D. AMPS 373 - still limping

Aww, poor JD and poor Dyana. Sorry your boy is feeling out of sorts. I'll be looking for your update.

Re: 12/10 J.D. AMPS 373 - still limping

Poor guy! Could his BG be high because his leg hurts? Hope the vet has some ideas.

Here's hoping it's just s/thg simple, like a splinter you just couldn't see Dyana, but that the vet can find and get out easily.

Re: 12/10 J.D. AMPS 373 - back from vet

I had to hurry to get to the vet before they closed, but grabbed my 2 1/2 year old bupe and my adequan and a syringe to take with me. The vet examined J.D. the same way I did last night (comparing the two legs to each other) and found no abnormalities except some tenderness in the foot/toes area (which I also noticed last night). I can't remember if I brought the bupe out of my jacket pocket first or the vet mentioned medicam first, but I said No medicam. I said something about not being sure if I should give the bupe because I didn't want him to feel no pain and then jump all around and make the hurtie worse. He said that's what's good about medicam. It's an anti-inflamitory, but won't take the pain away like the bute will (he kept calling it bute, which is what is used in horses). I mentioned something about the kidney issues with medicam and he said one shot won't hurt the kidneys.
J.D. is eating like a fiend, now that we're home. Cleaning all the bowls :-D
Anyway, I refused the medicam, and I had the doctor look at his teeth, and he got weighed on a sheep (or some huge) scale. I asked the doctor to watch/help me with my technique to administer the adequan dose, and he showed me how to shoot in the rear of the thigh. He said he had never heard of equine adequan for cats. I told him it was something new and seemed to be working pretty good, much better than the cosequin. He had two young assistants in the office who kept taking notes and wanted to look at, hold, and write down, the two medications that I brought with me.
$45.00 exam fee only. J.D. will probably feel better soon, and he probably is just having simpathy pains for my injured digit.
I think the high bg is just from a bounce and not the pain, but maybe a little of both.

Re: 12/10 J.D. AMPS 373 - back from vet

I hope J.D.'s owwie feels better soon.
And how cute that you were teaching the vet's assistants, (and the vet too, heheh.)

Great news!!! Sounds like a very interesting vet visit...sheep scale  .
The vet loves sheep. I was the last patient one day and while I was leaving, I heard the doctor and receptionist (male) and someone else adamantly talking about sheep, like it was the love of their life, and there was a horse trailer filled with sheep in the parking lot. He advertises sheep pelts on his bulletin board (good for car seat covers, throws, rugs, and baby changing stations :o ). He works on farms mostly, but is open a few hours a day for dogs and cats. And people come from all over (even other states) to his practice. He's the one that originally diagnosed J.D. with diabetes, and Ginger was spayed by him. He's loved and recommended by a lot of people in these parts. But, he's getting old
So, J.D. was 13lb 6oz on the vet's big huge scale and 13lb 12oz on mine, so it wasn't too far off.
We just came in from outside (in the freezing cold) and J.D. did some nice trotting out there on the big lawn area.
I haven't tested him since AMPS, because I don't want to see another pink :?

Re: 12/10 J.D. AMPS 373 - back from vet

I do love large animal vets. It takes a special person and a lot of heart. In the past some of the best vet advice I got was from one.

I was thinking of all the scents J.D. was picking up on while there. I know when I bring any horse equipment home Ollie is all about the new scents....he will go to great lengths to investigate. He would have loved going there. :-D

Have you tried the neosporin pain relief on your finger yet....maybe it will help.

People are always amazed that J.D. just sits on my lap at the vets, as he did today, even when a poodledoodle or whatever they're called and a schnouwzer started going at it. He just sits there. This guy came right up to me and sat down with his cat and said to me "I see you brought your black and white, too". I said "did you bring your black and white?" and he did have a tuxedo in a carrier. We talked for quite a bit about how precious and interesting and unique cats are. That was nice.

Thumb. I did put J.D.'s neosporin on my finger when it first started hurting so bad. After that I put everything on it. Yesterday, a girl at work, told me to put a cut off finger from a rubber glove on top of the bandage and it felt better instantly. I still have the other 4 fingers from the glove, so I should cut another one from the glove and  apply it.

J.D. did some nice trotting outside today, after the vet visit. And he seemed pretty happy. We also took a nice long nap. His foot does toe out to the side still. I have his litter box upstairs and I don't think he's gone down into the basement once, since I brought it up. Normally, I'll put one upstairs, and he still insists on going down into the basement to use the ones down there, but not this time. I thought for a day that it must have been Ginger attacking J.D. as he climbs up the stairs, that injured him. But, he is constantly under foot and is constantly getting stepped on by me. Maybe, it's all my fault. I wasn't really mad at Ginger anyway, since I didn't see it happen, I can't exactly blame her.

Wow. He just went up 215 points in 2 hours and 7 minutes. I gave him some R with his evening shot. I gave him his Pepcid with my left hand (he doesn't like my bandage going down his throat) on the second try. He ate all his 1st Dinner and looked at me for more. He's now sitting in the too little cat bed licking his chops.

it sounds like a positive report from the vet on J.D.

so sending healing vines to the two of you.....hope you are doing much much better as well....

FYI on the bupe....from what i've been told here by the dispensing pharmacist...it does loses its effect as time goes by....not sure it's true....the bottle they dispense for Rocket usually has an expiration date on it....it may just be a conspiracy in order to make more money off of me....but thought of throwing that out there for you to be aware....maybe ask others if that's the case....

Hope J.D. feels better soon. You have certainly done a great job with him Dyana. You just keep tickin like a Timex watch with the good of your furbabies always uppermost.
