New pen today.
He ate at +10.5, but that shouldn't account for the red amps.

Checkers has a vet checkup this afternoon. Something bothers him in his mouth. I've been wiping it with a gauzed finger, in the cheek pouches, but produce nothing on the gauze...ever. I only notice it after he's eaten, so thought it was food stuck in there somewhere. He has very few teeth.
This is not new, and I'm getting concerned now, that he may have a growth in his mouth.

Dr Dave okayed giving Checks bupe in prep for the exam, because it calms him, and makes him affectionate.

His mouth has been looked in, but not thoroughly, because he would have to be sedated and I want to avoid that, if possible.

He isn't seeing Dr Dave this time, because I want another opinion on Checkers' weight. Dr Ted also knows Checks well.

Sorry if this is rambling. I'm scared.

Checkers has an hour and a half to come down to blue, for Dr Ted. It was Ted who first put Checks on insulin, and made me give the first shot, in front of him. nailbite_smile

Come on down Checkers, let's show off for the doctor.

You can do it Checkers, it's only 4 points. Just a little slide!

Paws crossed that it is nothing serious. I hope he cooperates after the bupe. Good idea!

Checkers! You have to go to the vetty?? It will be OK, I don't have many teeth either! KTSS will pick you up afterwards and blow the vetty smell off in the dune buggies! -- Tess

Good news is, there is no mass or tumors in his mouth. No cancer. Whew!
Bad news is, I still don't know why he contorts his face, like he's trying to get rid of something.

After a cursory exam and finding nothing, I asked about having light sedation for a better exam. We went that route.

Doc examined the sleeping cat, looked deep in his throat, took 2 tooth exrays. NOTHING!
This makes no sense to me. He's pawing at the side of his face right now.
I'm so frustrated.
The conversation about his weight, all led back to a 16 year old cat, with diabetes.

Blood work and urinalysis scheduled. We didn't want to put him thru more today.

Oh yeah....the bupe had no effect on his personality today

Ohhhhh, the last thing doc said to me? "keep an eye on that glucose?"....WHAAAAAAT???
Does he not know my life revolves around Checkers glucose?

Hi Barb, whew! Good report on Checkers. I know first thing we think is cancer.
 on th Bupe and his personality.
Thanks for the link on Molly's pic. She and Maggie could be twins and maybe were soulmates in another life. I'll have to get a pic of Mags up soon when she isn't sleeping. Give Checkers some hugs and scritches from us for being such a good boy at Vetty.

Barb, I'm glad you got a good report on Checkers and it's nothing serious. I hope you can find out why he's pawing at his face.

Re: 12/10 Checkers pmps 183

Yippee....we haven't had a blue pmps since Nov 10. :-D

Susan reminded me that his face/jaw, may be sore tonight, because his little mouth was held open so long for exam.

Re: 12/10 Checkers pmps 183

WOO HOO! A blue pmps! Well done Checks!

I am glad that the vetty visit showed nothing serious. FWIW: My civvie BJ was doing what it sounds like Checks is doing. She would eat, then the paw at her mouth, make the strangest faces, sometimes almost a gag reflex, like something was stuck, it bothered her, or.... I too took her in, same type of exam, which to revealed nothing. There so sores, no teeth issues, no swellings etc... baffling! My vet thought that that perhaps she was getting food stuck in her cheek pouch and the only was for her to dislodge it was by pawing at her mouth. She was an older kitty by this time, so the theory seemed plausible to me at the time. I dunno... we never did find anything wrong wit her mouth. It got to be just the way she ate.

BTW: excellent idea on the bupe before the exam. too bad it didn't change things.  ah Checks....

Re: 12/10 Checkers pmps 183

Hi Barb,
What a relief that there is nothing wrong! Maybe the problem is on the outside of Checkers' face? (but the vet would certainly have seen that). Could it be a splinter or something similar that is very small? Anyway, Checkers, you did really well today, and what a nice PMPS, too.

Have a good, restful evening, Barb, "keeping an eye on that glucose"

Hugs from us,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 12/10 Checkers pmps 183

Excellent vetty report...what a relief!!! And nice PMPS, too...but you'd better watch that glucose tonight ;-) !!! Have a great one, Barb!!!

Not so happy with the high yeller, but still happy with the blue pmps. :-D
I let him overeat at his +10.5. I was so glad to see him pig out, that I let him.
Ted said giving him coconut oil was fine, to try to put on a little weight.
I know it won't be muscle, just a little flesh would be nice.

Michelle, I've been assuming it was food stuck in his mouth and have been cleaning it with a gauzed finger.
Helen also mentioned to try doing that.

I'm beat, and headed off to bed. Someone woke me 2 hours early, looking for breffis, then came the civvies. I never did get back to sleep.
Tomorrow friends.
