Today all the family is quite happy that Wally is wandering into the purple zone almost all day...I see this as an improvement!

Question.... I'm doing insuline injections on the scuff area ...and more exactly around the shoulder blades .... moving around an imaginary clock (clockwise rotation of 1 hour for each shot).

Is it this the best area for shooting? I've read that you should change spot as much as possibile... i'm curious to know if our strategy is varied enough !

That is how I inject Bear. I go one direction needle pointing toward his head in the scruff and at other times needle pointing toward tail in the scruff. Plus moving the location around his scruff.

Does your SS show purple? Lol. I think it is a hot pink.

So I have been tagging you incorrectly, some of the time, when I responded to your questions. I went back and edited my responses to you and put Wally & Stefano instead of just Stefano.
I was wondering if you got alerts after I edited them?

Looks like Bear needs an increase tomorrow morning. He is pretty much repeating yesterday's numbers, today.

And yes... he's making progress..... BUT he didn't want to behave well tonight I was hoping to see some yellow!!!

Wally never stops to surprise me. I don't understand why his PMSP was just 330 and then +3 410 with 6U of dose! He was supposed to follow the other direction!!!

I see that Bear is also making progress and like to explore a lot of different colors .... maybe we should explain them that the game is to go green! :)

I have seen many people on the Forum remark on the strange patterns of BG after an increase. Most replies comment that a lot of cats react differently with increases and expect some wonky BG numbers.

I think Bear's body was surprised by the last increase and he used the insulin more efficiently, then his body panicked at hitting green and we saw the (Somogyi, Hypoglycemia induced Hyperglycemia, overswing, bounce) in it's extreme. His BG rose over 400 more in two hours. Ouch!

Wally might have been having a mini bounce....

Yeeesss ... fortunately no more vomit since we started using it! ...It was enough to program 30gr at 4:00am (I don't give more that that because I don't want to impact my AMPS measurement).

Let's keep finger crossed, at least this problem is finally solved!!!

Hogan will only let me inject in the scruff, and I also do what Lora does - I try to alternate direction of the needle/fold as well as move around the scruff.

Glad the vomiting is better!
 
Hello tracey, do you advice to test all injection sites as per your illustration? I read a post some time ago about changing site could help insuline effectiveness.... Is changing site having the same effect of a different dose?
 
For five years, I mostly shot Neko around the shoulders. I tried lower down the flank, but she did not approve. :mad: When I moved the shot site, it had no real impact on the numbers, though the nadir might have been a little earlier. Hard to tell as Neko was fairly random with her nadirs.

How about 6.5 units tomorrow? I'd really like to see Wally start to get into the yellows.

I can't remember if I've asked before, but how is Wally's health otherwise? His teeth OK? The reason I'm asking is that when kitties get over 6 units of insulin and are on low carb food, we start suggesting that people get their cats tested for what we call "high dose" conditions, such as acromegaly. One in four diabetic cats has acromegaly. My Neko had that and insulin auto antibodies (IAA), another high dose condition. Note that not all cats with these conditions have high doses, but if a cat gets that high a dose, the chances are pretty good there is a secondary condition happening. Acromegaly is caused by a benign pituitary tumour that causes excess growth hormone to be produced, which in turn causes the diabetes. Testing for this condition in Europe is done at the Royal Veterinary Clinic in England.
 
Hello all,

Wendy, today we are going to do 5th and 6th cycle on 6U. We have seen good results on the 3rd day of the same dose... I know that we are still far away from where we would like to be :(

We blood tested for infection and didn't find anything. I immagine that teeth have to be checked by vet otherwise it wouldn't show on blood or behavior.

Also my vet suggested we might think of acromegaly testing (he anticipated it will be quite expensive).... what about IAA test? Is this also expensive?
 
IAA test is only done at Michigan State University in the US, so most people in Europe don’t get it done. The RVC test isn’t too expensive. It’s the shipping cost that is expensive.

These high numbers are really hard on Wally’s kidneys. I would be trying to get to better numbers as fast as possible. That means increasing every four cycles if you aren’t seeing anything below 300.
