Wow, 304! Uncharacteristic for Rusty. Some of those shots must indeed have been fur shots. I think last night's (Tues.) shot was good, but am not sure about yesterday morning or Monday evening. I shot his "normal" amount for numbers above 100 (going by Phoebe's practice): 0.5 of a unit. I tried the method of pulling up on his hair this morning and it did help to see the skin (thanks CD and Ele). We are having a severe wind storm and Rusty was quite excitable when I was testing him (successfully!) this morning (none of us slept very well last night because of the wind rattling the windows), so the weather might be a factor in his pink number.
All Ps in place this morning. Rusty ate the upstairs food left out for him last night, but spent the night on the bed with us and never got back downstairs. We had a great play in the "cube" yesterday evening. He took a small catnip mouse in there with him and had a marvelous time rolling around. At the moment he is in one of his favorite spots: his perch on top of the scratching post, hopping over to the radiator from time to time to soak up some heat (the radiators have marble slabs on top, so they are nice and comfy).
Everyone have a good day,
Ella

Hey kitties: someone please tell me how to get off of this pink floor, OK? I've got lots to learn and want to start hanging out with the gang.

Rusty

Re: 12/1 Rusty AMPS 304

good morning guys! Sounds like rusty is making himself right at home with you guys, snuggling up in bed and sleeping on the cat perch .. kitties sure do lead a pretty good life at Ellas house! I hope some of the kitties on here can help rusty find his way to the lower floors ... don't ask mocha for directions though, she does this dance all wrong! Have a great day guys!

Re: 12/1 Rusty AMPS 304

We are about a month in giving insulin. Maverick has long grey hair. I pull up on the fur also and blow a little into where the indent would be. Sometimes I have to feel the skin indent to know that I will be hitting the right place. We use the small needles which help avoid the furshots too.

Rusty is just adorable and I'm so glad to hear he is settling in so nice. You have a big heart as does everyone here.

Re: 12/1 Rusty AMPS 304

AH Rusty - what are you doing on the pink floor? Wind storm spook you a little?

Hey Ella - fun to shoot along haired cat huh... Mannie is too. I do what the others have described - basically pull up a section of fur until I can see skin, and then shoot. It works well - I can see the injection, know if it all got in, etc. I hope that works for Rusty. Perhaps the high number today is/were from a fur shot?

It sounds like you guys are settling in just fine. He sounds happy, and loving his new home. Just very very cool.

Rusty! DUDE! I am on my way - we need to get you off of the pink floor - it is really nasty up there. I will bring the gang too - they all what to see you. My bean bought some really cool shrimp treats so I will see if I can sneak them out. See you soon - watch for us: roadster: bright kelly green, loaded with singing kitties. ~~ Mannie

Re: 12/1 Rusty AMPS 304

Rusty just seems to want to peek at the pink floor to see what's there. Let's hope it is really unappealing to him.

Ahhhh, radiators. Cleo (GA) used to love to sleep directly on them. The heat didn't seem to bother her in the least. I could barely touch them.

Rusty! We'll all come to get you in the roadster then hang out. I just made my escape so I know the way out! -- Tess p.s. this is from before the new paint jog. Watch for us!

Re: 12/1 Rusty AMPS 304

Hi Ella - scruffles to Rusty, the BFG - big furry guy.

You may need to bump up his dose for a little while until he gets all settled in and builds up his shed. We had started him at 1u in April, and reduced in the summer to 0.5u (and half dose if below 100). At Claudia's, he had been getting 1.5u Lantus

I'm so glad we made the move before the weather got worse -- we're getting snow today.

Three of my kitties are now comfortable coming back in the bedroom -- I'm going to wash my quilt on Saturday, and maybe timid kitty #4 will come in - she used to sleep with me but it has been about 8 months.

We still miss Rusty, but to see my other cats so relaxed and purring more -- we definitely did the right thing, and Rusty has some terrific new parents. Thanks, Ella and Edward for giving him your love and home.

(((((hugs)))))

Re: 12/1 Rusty AMPS 304

Nice report on Rusty and the 304 is just barely pink. Come on down, Rusty! I'm glad the tip helped with the shot, Ella. Hopefully you'll see a better number when you check later. Stay warm!

Re: 12/1 Rusty AMPS 304

That's a low pink...a blip...he will be back down soon enough. How's the LB action?
Glad to hear he is enjoying the radiator and scratching post! Hope you guys have a Happy Dec 1st!

Re: 12/1 Rusty AMPS 304

Oh, by the way -- Rusty does like nanners -- I just didn't send his nanner along because it was all brown and squishy if you know what I mean  . The catnip rainbow is made by the same company and was "fresher"

Re: 12/1 Rusty AMPS 304, +6 251

looks like Rusty is settling in to his new home and family very well. I'm so happy for all of you. And I see the +6 is a nice yellow, lets hope for some blues this evening

Re: 12/1 Rusty AMPS 304, +6 251

Hi again,
Trying to type between power outages! Lights flickering!! Nice drop to 251 at +6, so I hope that if I don't give any more fur shots we'll get his shed refilled and can get some numbers that are more characteristic for him. (Phoebe, I may go up to a "fat" 0.5 tonight.) It is so warm here today (in the 50s because the wind storm is out of the south) and Rusty was interested in the downstairs front porch (which he can see through the glass doors), so I opened the door and he went out on the porch, climbed up on our "summer" dining table, and was really excited to look out the windows. But he was happy to come inside again, too. (the wind is really howling). In the next few weeks we'll have to put the door quilts over the doors to help block out the cold, so the porches will essentially be invisible until next spring. It's a small house without the TB "cure porches", so Rusty's space will be almost doubled when we can open them up again.
Pat: lb action is good.
Phoebe: glad to hear that your kitties are happier in a house without Rusty!!! But he is so sweet and so friendly and even a bit shy. He's beginning to learn that Edward doesn't see well (E. bumped into him a couple of times). Stu used to speak if he thought that Edward wouldn't see him.
Off now to enter some more of Phoebe's data into Rusty's spreadsheet. I'm up to mid-May.

Ella
Hi FD pals! I'm ready to be picked up in the roadster to go riding or visiting. Thanks for the invite!

Re: 12/1 Rusty AMPS 304, +6 251

Ella...I am so sorry that I have missed Rusty's condo Mon and Tues altho it seems to me I saw either an amps or pmps of 176 yesterday? I'm glad to see he is coming down. LOVE his photo...he is so handsome and it's great that he is a lap cat. Sounds like he is settling in so nicely and you all will be so comfy and happy together. When we lived in Germany, we had very wide marble windowsills over the radiators and the cats were there ALL the time in winter. Sadly, all those cats are now GAs but they all had wonderful lives; the last one passed away 4.5 years ago at 21.

Although Gracie is short haired, she is one plush little girl so I do the same as everyone else...I pull up fur until I can see skin but I go one step further because we've had static electricity lately. After we poke her ears, I also put a cold, damp cloth on the pokey spot and squeeze so I use this same damp cloth to just pat down the fur around the skin where I'm going to inject to be sure all the fur is flat and I just have skin. I also push the plunger in as far as I can and hold for ten seconds (someone else suggested this). Thankfully, Gracie lets me do this but I use the short needles at 31g. While I hear the 1/2" needle can result in better absorption, they don't come any smaller than 29g and Gracie didn't like the 30g (she meowed when I shot but she doesn't now). And I've heard too many people say it's easier to give fur shots with the 1/2" and I don't need any help

Glad to see you posting again and for this boy to have such an awesome home!!

Re: 12/1 Rusty AMPS 304, +6 251

Russ!
I hear you landed on your feet with your new place, Dude. Good for you. My bean got all misty eyed today. I think it was because my brother, Bear Man, is on the same page in the new picture book as your brother, Stu. You and I gotta stick together, Buddy, OK?
Your friend,
Ted

Re: 12/1 Rusty AMPS 304, +6 251

Hi Ella and Rusty!

I'm so excited to visit you today! I've kept up on Rusty's travels and am so happy that he has a new home with you and Edward! I'm sure you'll get those numbers under control in no time.

He's such a handsome guy - I love that picture of him!

Thanks for visiting our condo today!

Hi Everyone,
Well, tonight's bg test was the worst in history: had to poke about 10 times and it was like getting blood out of a stone. Poor Rusty tried to get away the whole time, and then, when I finally got a blood drop, he wiped his ear with his paw and we had to start all over again. He's not forgiven me yet. But I don't think that the insulin shot was a fur shot, so that's a plus! I shot a slightly fat 0.50. I've decided to start using the back-up meter, the Relion Micro. I had been using the Relion Ultima, which requires a larger blood drop. When I have tested them (on myself) in the past, the Ultima gave lower readings, so I used it (of course!). But this evening when I tested them on myself, I got the same reading. So I'm going to use the Micro tomorrow. Wish me luck!
Ella
Hi Ted, our brothers are on the same page in the calendar? That's really good! My mamabean hasn't gotten hers yet and is anxiously awaiting its arrival. She said she'd show me the pictures when we get it. Yeah, man, we've got to stick together!
Russ

Maverick just loves being massaged by his warmed up rice sock. We warm up both ears, and pet him all over - his belly, his face, his ears. He purrs non stop. And almost always get blood vs multiple pricks without it. He also bleeds more at his ear tip than along the side edge. His left ear won't bleed easy at all though - just the right.

He really is a beautiful boy.

Hey Karrie, I wish Rusty liked the rice sock, but he doesn't like it at all. One of the problems is that when I use the sock he gets agitated right away, when I'm still far off from giving the ear poke. Oh well, I'll get it figured out, I hope!

Ella

Awww Ella, happy to hear Rusty is getting all settled in

A trick Jill mentioned, she doesn't use a rice sock on Alex and I don't have a microwave, she kind of massages the ear to get the blood flowing. It might work for Rusty.

Glad to see he came down to the 2nd floor!

Have a good evening

Hey Rusty! It's me Mannie! You gots to help your bean out - she's trying but man what's with your ears dude - tell them to bleed and then she'll leave them alone, ya know? Hey - It was so fun today - riding in the roadster, singing songs, and snowboarding at Binks. You are a really good snowboarder. hey - my bean got her calendar today too. I am so excited! I am on the same page as your bro Stu - We are right next to each other. WOOT! See you tomorrow? ~~ Mannie

Aahh...(((Ella))) ....I sense your distress esp when you are a pro at ear sticks. This is a very nice PMPS for him and since you got a good shot, perhaps he'll have a great night. I sure don't have any suggestions...and I'm sure you've talked to Phoebe. Maybe he's still adjusting.
