Good morning! :coffee: Yesterday we had a dramatic start to the day with a reduction but it ended calmly and with me being able to get 6 hours of sleep. Yippee!

Worried about Ruby's constipation. It's ongoing despite using ⅛ tsp Miralax daily. She sits in her litterbox and digs as though looking for gold and cries. When she is able to poop, she is so happy that she prances around the apartment with her tail straight up. I have tried pumpkin (walks away), and I sprinkled some S. Boulardii on her food yesterday and today. The slippery elm bark powder is arriving at the end of the week from which I plan to make little balls and pop them in her mouth like pills.

Major downside is she is so uncomfortable that she doesn't even want to eat much. Her appetite has gone down a lot, but once she is able to pass some poop, she comes straight to the food bowl, cleans it, and cries for more food. Right now she's eaten 4 mouthfuls of a ¼ can of food. Sigh.

Poor Ruby.:( I hope she feels better soon. If you haven't already, check out this site: https://felineconstipation.org/ Very detailed information on the what/why and how to help. Butters also has issues but I'm mostly able to manage it with pumpkin and lots of water added to her food. I also have Slippery Elm Powder and was going to use it based on suggestions found here: https://felinecrf.org/holistic_treatments.htm#seb_powder
Her BG numbers look great, though.:bighug:

Thanks, Lyla! I've read the FC.org site pretty thoroughly. Wish Ruby wasn't so finicky, as pumpkin seems like the most effective and natural way for us to manage this. I add about 1 part water to every two parts food, so Ruby's definitely getting her water. Her numbers ARE great and I can't tell you how happy I am about this :D, but I was expecting her constipation to improve along with the numbers.

Congrats on the reduction and I hope Ruby feels better in the poop department. Miralax helped Jax though I looked at slippery elm as an alternative. I'm curious to follow your journey. I just read here to rotate the extra fiber sources - I haven't tried that - I did try pumpkin and didn't think it did much for him. I also just read this at the bottom of the page I linked: "cats are quirky, sensitive and astonishing and we love them" Lol, isn't that the truth. Have a wonderful day :bighug:

+3 = 64. Ruby’s still diving despite front loading her feeding to the beginning of her cycle. Stay away from the sharks, my love!

PMPS = 152.

Slipped in ¼ teaspoon of Weruva Puréed Pumpkin to her post PM shot dinner along with the tiny sprinkle of S. boulardii. It costs about 10x as much as the canned organic stuff you can get in the supermarket, but it comes in a cute pouch and is marketed for cats and dogs, so why not? She didn't seem to mind it, unlike the canned which she walked right by, so will continue to add to her food in small increments. Fingers crossed it works to help move things along!

Yay for poop. :) Poor girl must've really worked for that. It's sad watching them struggle just to poop. :( I'm glad she got some out . Hope you have a good night :)
Thanks, Cheryl! It fills me with such anxiety to hear her rooting around in the box and yowling, but I also see the relief in her whole being when she accomplishes it. I want that for her every day!

I'm sure you may know this but just in case - freeze your portions so you can use up that pouch. I took a baking sheet and put a piece of parchment on it and the did 1t scoops (or however much you are feeding for the day). once frozen, store them in a tupperware or ziplock in your freezer and you can defrost for a few seconds in the microwave.

I did that with the can of pumpkin but the pouch is literally just over 1 oz. I’ve put the remaining contents into a ziplock and plan to use it up before it goes bad. I may put it in Olive’s food as well. Can’t hurt. :) I think this is just a much more watered down version of what’s in the can so it’s more stealth than the canned stuff. ;)

I was using that in the beginning. Actually I only just bought my first actual can of pumpkin. It does have a different look and consistently. It worked well for Jazzy. I only bought the can because it's cheaper that way. Lol. Those little pouches cost more. But if she'll eat that and not the canned, then this what I'd best :):bighug:
